Well if I'm giving the guy a dirty look and he continues to do it to ME it's wrong. With kids you can never been too careful!

Ummm, maybe you should say something to the shooter...

Which brings us to the unavoidable reality of this which is avoid all public places.
When they finally make photography illegal only the crooks, cops, and politicians will have it.

Some say that taking a person's picture steals their soul, and now proof of just that!

I may get flamed but why not ask the parents first? IDK seems kind of bad to just take pics of people and post them randomly on the internet. What is a model release for then?

respect people and their lives, if you want to shoot their children you should ask every time.

somewhat different but people think it's cool to go up to babies and touch them, why I don't know, it's NOT ok.

But I promise you if my husband came up to your and grabbed her a*se just cause he thought it was "so cute not to" you'd not say cool, I can understand that.

It's a hard subject, were do you draw the line? Some parents may not mind, some do, you don't know until you ask them.

Sadly people are not all lovely and wonderful and some steal kids and do awful things to them. A guy taking pics of a little girl he doesn't know can not be seen as something innocent IMHO, it may be, but any parent should question it and not take it for granted that the guy is wonderful with no bad intentions

These are taken in public places. Model releases are only needed if the photographer intends to use the photo for commercial purposes.

If there's some stranger following your kids around, then there's a problem. If they're taking pictures and you're kid happens to be doing something interesting, why should he not? If you have a problem with that, go talk to the the photographer in question.

If you have a problem with street photography in general, then please don't read this thread.

I don't care what anyone says, I'd think it's creepy if some guy pulled up took a walk about and photo'd my kid playing. Passing by and taking a snap, okay whatever, but just standing there and doing it over and over again I'd begin to wonder WTF ?

Or she, can't be discriminatory.

Why be so rude? It's general talk and opinion. We're just entitled to it as you are.

good point there! It's often women who steal babies!

It's not meant to get into a debate but show another side of the coin, maybe people reading this will think twice next time, esp if you don't have kids it's maybe harder to understand

Spot on.
What scares people is what they know about themselves...

Here's another one, and the little ones Mom and dad were right there... and we talked for a bit, and even let the him strike a pose for me in a few shots.
Unfortunately, I failed to get a release so it's just art...

Yep, it's all fun and games until it happens to you or your child. People bring up things like "It was in a public place" but that doesn't make it necessarily right. Obviously there are laws about going up to someone and grabbing their behind so that's a little different b/c it's pretty cut and dry. Not so with photography in a public place. It's a matter of taste and each person has different standards.

I think what's clear is that we need to show some sensitivity to this and put some thought before shooting and posting something.

That's the typical photographer's reaction. Kind of self serving isn't it? OK, you are in a public place and you know your "photographer's rights". Oh brother...

The fact is there are some people out there sensitive about having either their of their kid's picture taken. Who cares why. Who cares if they are "hiding something". It doesn't matter. If you can't respect that, public place or not, you are the one with issues, not them.

I can't believe this has to be explained...
