I'm not the only one who feels like this, sadly people like to hurt kids and how do people know person behind the lens isn't a freak? You don't.

That's the typical photographer's reaction. Kind of self serving isn't it? OK, you are in a public place and you know your "photographer's rights". Oh brother...

The fact is there are some people out there sensitive about having either their of their kid's picture taken. Who cares why. Who cares if they are "hiding something". It doesn't matter. If you can't respect that, public place or not, you are the one with issues, not them.

I can't believe this has to be explained...

You never needed to explain it. I never said it was ok to stand around taking pictures of other people's kids. But if you're out on a shoot or walking around or whatever, and there's an interesting scene with someone's child in it, I have no qualms taking a picture. If the parent doesn't like it, it will be deleted.

The part about model releases was to answer Absolutely Fabulous' question. Nothing else.

I never said anything about "why" they may or may not want it. I never said anything like "tough, they should deal with it."

I have no idea how you read "self-serving" into it. It's the same as with anyone else - if they don't want their picture taken, then it gets deleted. But that doesn't mean I have to talk to each and every person I meet before I take a picture of them.

So please, spare me the attitude. I didn't say anything inflammatory.

Well, OK, maybe I read too much into what you were saying. Seems like you were dismissive about the poster, but I read things wrong.

All I wanted to say was it's kind of silly some photographers pull out (not saying you) the "Photographer's Rights" card like that trumps all. Yeah, these rights are pretty black and white when written on paper, but I think we all agree that there always is a moral dilemma when it comes to certain things like photographing kids, etc. The fact that most of us feel some level of discomfort street shooting is proof of that, I think.

I just hope that people have sensitivity for that. It seems like you have a reasonable outlook on it.

I apologize if I rubbed you the wrong way.

Yes well... that does nothing to get street shots or allay the fears of your subjects...

I was trying to frame the child against the Ferris wheel, but later wished I had got the mom in fully in the frame.
Framing a moving target is tough... people even more so.
As sinister as it sounds... I like subject interaction, ha-ha, most times.

Your shot of the man on the bench is good, like the laser line DOF profile, and the angles. He looks spot lite and frozen in time.
The one of the ladies and their reflections is another one I like.

Yeah, it's sometimes tough scrambling to get the shot. That's one thing about street shooting...the action never waits for you!

Street candids is the majority of my work.. I'm lucky I live in a country where people generally don't mind being photographed,, most actually enjoy it..

As for being a creep,,, never has occurred to me..

I didn't say everyone was out to hurt kids, I said there ARE people out to hurt kids, you can not argue that full stop.

If people stop and pose it's very different to people giving you an evil stare and you STILL taking a photograph.

"Sadly people like to hurt kids" should have been written "There are people who like to hurt kids"

well obviously you were thinking in a negative way from the jump...if you read it as it was intended you would have never gotten that out of what was written.

she said "sadly, people like to hurt kids..." not "sadly, ALL people like to hurt kids."

Wow.
This thread isn't about hurting kids... at all.
Sure you have the right site?

Funny how you found this thread, isn't it?
