Well I know a lot of basics, I've taken digital editing classes at my college and really wasn't looking for more of the same. I was expecting much more - such as what you would get from here: http://www.digitalphotoshopretouching.com/order.htm (external link)

Obviously my expectations were just much different than what is actually there. People talk about NAPP memberships as if they are the holy grail, and I just don't see it and I won't be one of those people who will continue to subscribe after this initial period that I already purchased.

Yeah. It's not the be-all end-all tutorial site, but it has other merits too.
Try this site www.Lynda.com (external link) or buy the High End DVD's, but I wouldn't expect too much for your money from them either ;) Especially at over 200 bucks a copy.
Looking at the previews the high end DVD's look way over priced and move kind a slow due to all the opinionated chatter.

I bought the Beginners CS4 starter pack from Kelby's site, three books and one of them comes with a DVD.

NAPP has tutorials but it isn't really a training site. It's an association's website. There are articles, reviews, forums, a magazine, etc. If you're wanting full training lessons, then you need to look at kelbytraining.com. They have full lessons there.

Well I got both the Kelby starter pack and joined CS4, I hope from this I can learn to at least do a few things to make buying and spending the time learning this program worth while.

Instead of starting a new thread, thought I'd resurrect this one. Thinking of ordering some 107" savage seamless. If B&H is still offering free shipping for NAPP, that takes me down to about $81 for the membership. Moves me in the right direction.

I may instead eat the shipping and put the $81 towards Lynda.com. I'm probably more interested in the training aspects. Not sure that the discounts at NAPP would make it worth my while. While I buy probably more gear etc. than I should, I have an Amazon Prime account and buy almost everything through them. Plus I plan to slow my gear/ancillary purchases in the future (yeah, right:rolleyes:)

Would like to hear from others really happy with their NAPP membership or to point out something I'm not considering. Thanks!

I haven't made much use out of NAPP discounts -- early event activity and such. I get the Photoshop User subscription and it is certainly useful (a couple good articles on Lightroom in the current edition). Then I considered using their discount to upgrade Lightroom but then I got a deal I couldn't refuse on LR3 so that was out.

In all likelihood I won't renew my subscription when it comes up again -- I've got a stack of the magazines that I've yet to work through and my finances are just not up to buying a bunch of stuff just to get the discounts. But, that's me. If you actively purchase things and their discounted price beats credible retailers, well, that's a plus. And, if you want to attend seminars/workshops/conventions, well, the membersip helps with that as well.

I need to buy full version of Photoshop CS5. I'm wondering what percentage of a discount NAPP members get off Adobe software?

Right now I have Lightroom 2 Academic. Looking at upgrading that to Version 3 and full copy of CS5 puts me at $768. They are selling the LR3 upgrade for $69 and CS5 full price at $699. Would love to get an extra price break.

I believe a NAPP member gets a 15% discount on Adobe products, but I'm just guessing there. If you can upgrade your LR for $69, well that's a good price as well.
