as for your gears, so you have really decided on the 16-35 VR huh?

the 7D prices are really falling fast... they could be had for around $1200-$1400 now brand new, so you might want to consider that.

Shaping up to be a really nice lineup there Tim! Looking forward to finding out what you think about the 16-35VR.

Yeah I figure for about US$600 less it's worth it to put up with the 16-35 distortion, which I can fix in post. I also like that it'll be a good enough backup for the 24-70 in case it gets broken, 35 is much more useful than 24 for that. I think i'll skip the 50mm F1.4 for now, I don't really need it and I can get it later. The 24-70's plenty, and all i'd use the 50mm for is a few portraits and maybe the first dance. I'm finding the DOF quite a bit less with full frame than crop bodies.

Where can you get a 7D for $1200? B&H has them for $1550. I just lowered mine to $1480 including grip and second Canon battery. I might be better off selling it locally.

I was going to try selling on fredmiranda, but you have to pay $15/quarter to post to that board. I might just try our local auction site.

I think the 16-35mm is a winner, if only its not too expensive for what it is..

As for the 7D, locally, I could get the 7D for around P68,000($1,420) cash, with 3 years warranty.

I'd honestly say your purchase wasn't worth it. On ebay, asavings is selling for $1420 shipped--minus ebay bucks, mrrebates, and bing cashback, and you're looking at $1270 flat. Pay with a visa or AMEX card, and your 1-year manufacturer warranty is extended to 2-years for free.

Thanks for the info. I might sell it locally, I think they're worth a bit more as they're still a bit more expensive here and there are virtually no second hand ones.

I used a D90 today. I must say it had a real quality feel, and the mirror sound was quite subdued compared to my usual 5D. What advantages do people who pay almost double for a D300s get over the D90?

5D & 7D (both gripped), 24-105L, 100-400L, 15-85, 50 f1.8, Tamron 28-75, Sigma 12-24, G10, EX-Z55 & U/W housing, A1+10 lenses, tripods, lighting gear, etc. etc.

You get the same exact AF module that's in the D3/D3s for one... Same awesome metering system too. ;)

There was a discussion about this on the DWF in the past few days. The D90 doesn't have the same AF system, it's definitely a lesser system. The D300s body is meant to be more of a pro level body I think.

d90?
-plastic construction
-different AF system
-no Banks (shooting banks)
-no intervalometer (does the D300 have this?)

that's about it that I care about, image quality, I read somewhere (bythom I think) that it has cleaner files that the D300. and is the best bang for the buck Nikon camera...

the D90 is the camera the convinced me to go Nikon ;)

even when I had my 500D, when my 2 brothers asked for recommendation on what camera should they buy, I recommended the D90, and I even bought 2 D90 ($1000/KIT) for them... there I saw the superior AF of Nikon, and the nice shutter sound, the quality feel of the body (even though its plastic) and I was convinced...

when the D700 arrived though, the D90 felt like a toy

here: Kenrockwell summarized what's missing in the D90 http://kenrockwell.com/nikon/d90.htm (external link)

I wouldn't say the D700 shutter is nice, or not nice, i'd say it's LOUD! I'll have to take less image during a ceremony as I think it'd be intrusive. Of course now I can get things in focus more reliably I don't need to take as many photos :)

yeah it is loud, I act as if I don't hear the shutter when in front of many people hahaha... its nice though, it feels sturdy compared to my rebel, although I can't remember if it sounds nicer thant he 40D.

My 5D mirror is loud. Is it that the mirror on any FF camera is that much bigger and heavier that it's inevitably going to be loud?

Yeah, FF mirror will be louder and lower pitched due to the larger moving part.
