I have yet to explore remote triggering via CLS. I'll have to look into that. I wonder how it would do in wedding receptions in low light...I need to mess around with it. I've got 3 SB-900's and the D700 so...

I like my PWs because they are reliable and they work everytime.

lol. I think I need to do that. my pregnant wife was holding the other flash (430ex) while the SB900 was on the stand with an umbrella. it was a nice beach sunset shot. I thought I had the stand deep enough on the sand. last time I heard electronics and water doesn't mix. umbrella was bent but it's ok. $20 than a $450 unit.

hahahaha and its pretty easy to move them, they are Voice Activated. say move to the right and your flash bracket (person) moves to the right. hahaha a little bit more expensive but a lot more versatile that flash bracket/stand.

hahaha

I think what I love about the commander mode is the ease and lack of extra equipment to set up.

Once we were doing a portrait shoot and I was using the fongsphere...wasn't getting the light I wanted so I took the sb600 off my 2nd camera handed it to the mother of the senior, asked my husband to put his sb600 in slave mode, and it was a very quick set of shots with much more dramatic lighting than I was previously getting. It took about 1min to set up as well. I like fast transitions when I'm working.

hey Permie. when you do portraits outside, do you shoot with the flash nakkid? I got used to umbrellas. I think my mentality got stuck when I always hear bare flash = too strong. I need to update my strategy as when windy days, I can still do outside.

sometimes I bounce it (off of whatever I can find)...lots of times I use the fongsphere (really, though this gets a bad rap, I like it for close up portraits, inside and out) if I'm using flash at all...sometimes bald & direct (only in very bright light and it's probably dialed down)...again, if it's not windy I'll use an umbrella but I got tired of wasting time chasing them.

this is outside, only using the fongsphere...I just love the soft even light with no hotspots. I realize this isn't dramatic lighting. I'm just saying that it's my first go to...

and while this was with the ds2, I had the fongsphere on the 580 and used the sun for the side light. It was just soft and even (compression is killing this shot...gah. I need to reupload it)
