Cool photos, but can you explain to me how rear curtain flash helped?

its done in long exposure tim, around 10sec or so for the person to be able to write the light and then pose...

on the first photo, if I did not put it in rear I would capture the moment he started to write instead of the ending...

on the 2nd shot I was the one who did that crazy power thing... and moved out of the scene just right before the flash fired.

if the flash fired when I clicked the shutter then I would have been included in the scene.

That's just logistics, but it's a valid use. Most people who use rear curtain have no idea what it's for.

can't find any other way how to do it, if I don't use rear it will flash at the beginning of the 10sec exposure...

that's about the only thing I know in using rear curtain flash, but I usually leave it there...so far have not been bothered to put it back to normal. and I use 1/60 flash sync is that correct? any problem if I go lower?

It might be easier to flash at the start, then do the light painting, that way everyone knows when it's going to flash.

Not sure what flash sync 1/60th means. If that's your shutter speed then it's a creative decision.

nope, there's a flash sync option in custom function e2.. that has 1/60, 1/30 and so on in it.

regarding flash from the start, I think it is not possible to capture it Tim... I did it a couple of times with a 10sec exposure and I can't get good results. I will try it again this weekend.

If you're using flash as the main light you should have the camera in M mode anyway.

I went to get some computer parts today...

Came home with a x1.7 extender and 50mm 1.4 sigma.

Saw the 28-300 for sale too, almost bought it, but the 50 and the 1.7 I need slightly more. ;)

I am expecting delivery of the 85G today so I brought my gear with me to work. Maybe I'll go out for a stroll after work.

I am using the lens changer 3. I can actually fit the D700 in one of the lens slots. I habe the 24G in the left slot and will have the 85G on the other. Perfect!
