what I've noticed so far, from all the samples on the web:

There are oval highlights on the side, just like the nikon.
The bokeh seems very nice, which is consistent with the 50.
The bokeh highlights don't seem to have that orange thing going on, though there is some fringing in some cases.
Sharpness is up in the air. In close portraits it looks very nice. But farther away is hard to tell. Unknown if it's the photog or the lens.
Colors are nice, but again, that is subjective to the system. We'll see soon, I hope how they are on nikon.
Focus speed is fast. I like that.

Thus far, the sharpness thing is a concern, otherwise, I think it's a very viable alternative for the G. In some cases (bokeh and highlights), the results look better, but again, the sharpness is a concern. (whether or not it's a focus shift type of thing too..or the photog)

Oops. Didn't realize there were more photos. OK, I've seen some of the shots of people in the club and at 100% they look sharp. I agree, on some of the other mundane boring distance shots, it's difficult to judge b/c of high ISO, low shutter speeds, and lack of definite area of focus, etc.

But overall, I think this is a good start.

Hoping to see more from more capable hands. :D

Just got an email informing me that the 2x TCIII is in stock and reserved for me. I have to make a decision whether to buy it or not. I ordered it when I still had the 200VR. I already have the 1.4x and 1.7x TC. They both work very well on the 70-200VR. If I decide to get the 2x, then I will most likely get rid of the 1.7x TC.

But dang, the 2x is so pricey.

Ugh...brick walls.;)
The first few shots were shot at 1/100. Looks a little soft too.
Very difficult to judge IQ on any of these. Why can't people test out lenses properly?

Nick the one thing though that you can see from the brick wall samples is the vignette that increases as he opens up more and more.. which I like.. I think they look great. I'll be buying this lens I think.

Nick, how can you complain? There's a cat shot!

I actually like that group. Good vignetting samples, good samples in general. I'm assuming though he left the UV filter shot on for most of those shots so I bet they could be even better. Still, it looks like it's a sure winner. I may move from 24/50 to 35/85 because of this!

I'll take one for the team and buy this.:D Actually, I've been looking for one for a while, putting myself on wait lists, etc. I finally got an email from a retailer that it's in stock.

I've been doing lots of reading on it and it seems to be better optically than the 1.7x TC. So if I like it, I'll keep it and sell the 1.7x. If not, then it will be very easy to sell the 2x without any loss.

Yeah, as I mentioned before, I didn't realize there were more photos. I stopped looking after the brick wall photos and only saw the other photos later. They look very good. I think the IQ is there. The 85G has CA. So does the 85L. They all look very similar, but also have their own characteristics too. I think the remaining question is AF speed and accuracy. This is going to be a GREAT option at a lower price point.

Again, I am happy with the 85G. 85mm is done with. Don't want to fix what's not broken. But then again, once the sample photos from actual users (who know how to use the lens) starts appearing, that could quickly change my mind. ;)

False alarm. Hahaha. Apparently they thought it was the TC III, but it was the TC II.

Ah well. Just as well. Probably didn't need to spend that kind of money on this thing anyways. ;):o
