now that lightrules has his hands on the sigma, we will see all it's flaws & benefits.

I'm not usually a "test photos" person but he always does a good job at bringing out the positives/minuses of the lens.

Since those were at f2, I'll wait for the f1.4 tests. Seems to be suffering from JPEG compression which is probably not the best when posting lens testing samples.;)

Again, all indications are positive and he confirms that AF is good, at least his copy.

The thing is, ironically, the Sigma uses superior optics I think (SD elements...which I think is similar to ED for Nikon). It looks like CA might be better controlled than the Nikon too. If this thing came out a few months ago I'd probably be shooting with it instead of the G. Ah well...not the biggest problem in the world to have I suppose. :D;)

Can't really tell much of anything at those sizes. The OP did mention that the 85L has an edge of resolving power however...

My Little Adventure

I got a Nikon D100 and Nikon 28-200 from a fellow POTN'er. It has been a blast in these first few hours. If anyone who is any good at Noise reduction would like the full size file and would like to play with it to post here your results. PM me, it could be fun resurecting this classic to the best we can get it with modern NR.

The surface is still original factory feel, so it's great to have a cam so very lightly used. Like new old stock. The cam is a 2002 and goes to ISO 6400 !! It seems Nikon later thought 6400 in 2002 was a little aggressive and thus pulled back below that for a top ISO for quite a few years. I've never shot my own modern (2009-2011) cam at ISO6400 to tell if this D100 is "horrible" or not at ISO 6400 but I can tell you this.... it looks fine as a 5x7. And it's a CCD at that ISO...wow!

I have experience with the D70. Nice little cam and I love the CLS flash control.

The Good:
It is very well sized.
It goes to 6400. LOL Almost NO banding, 40D is known to band at ISO 3200.
This baby shoots TIFFS also, how thoughtful!
It has a custom setting bank.
The flash metering works well in my experience. Word is the D100 older flash algorithm underexposes badly. Hmm?
The metering works well, as all nikons I've ever used. Light years ahead of most Canons to 2009.
The shutter button is soft squeeze like the 5D or maybe even more like the 1D.
Maybe I got lucky but the LCD screen is really well colored and bright. Not dim or odd colored.

The Unfortunate:
It doesnt have CLS control of flashes like the D70 and up. Makes me a bit sad.
The WB, ISO are on the top mode dial. Kind of unfortunate but easy to get used to.

Overall, I'd love this cam to be made now with a little NR thrown in and the CLS system. It'd be perfect. Pixel peepers, please don't flame. After all I posted this in the Nikon thread for some positive comments.

The D100 really is pretty old. My 40D's never banded at ISO3200, I had no problem with them, but the D700 is miles ahead - no surprise from full frame really.
