Mike, here are some more samples, comparisons with the 85L
http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/945990 (external link)

What's up with the metering differences? I seem to prefer the Sigma's images based on the lack of blown highlihghts...

Here's the other weird thing. Notice the foreground on the Canon is overexposed when compared to the Sigma, but the background is underexposed when compared to the Sigma, giving the 'bokeh' edge to the Canon. How weird is that? I will say though, that other than that, the bokeh looks identical. It's definitely a lens I'll own.

I'm not sure. I guess that was the 85 II and I don't know why it would be different.

My husband and I were talking about it last night and I guess we're going to buy it too. It looks good. It's hard because I was hoping that someone would buy it and use it for a while so that we could see some real world stuff first.

I'll buy it when it comes out :D I shouldn't, it doesn't make sense, another lens would make more sense, but I know I'll probably buy it. Hell I'm half tempted to preorder it now.

it's weird, B&H is accepting "preorders" on the canon version but not the nikon.

OK, turns out they got the 2X TC III in stock today so I ended up ordered it. Just couldn't resist.
Should get it sometime next week. I'll probably test it out on some birds at the park or something. Will of course report back. ;)

Guys, can anyone recommend a lens that flares nicely? I want a lens with nice colorful flare when shooting into the sun, so I can play with it. Focal length isn't important, wide to normal I guess, and not too expensive. I hear wide zooms are decent, an older 16-35 type design, but a bit longer would be good too.

The problem with my Nikon G lenses is the damn things won't flare, no matter what I do! Sharp, great color, great contrast, great flare, and now I want something cheaper and nastier!

Try the 18-35, it actually controls flare decently, but not great. You CAN get it to flare. And the price point is right up the "cheaper" alley!

Agreed and the 28-105 will flare well when shot directly into the sun........

Thanks guys. 18-35 sounds like a better range for that, but a 20-50 would be even better.

I want colorful spots, circles of flare that I can put around couples, that sort of thing. I just want to play, really.

why not just use light texture overlays and do it in pp?

here's some free ones (that was just a quick google ...there's a bazillion out there)
http://thinkdesignblog.com …s-lens-flare-textures.htm (external link)

Using them in conjunction with TR dirty pictures texture program would work well...but if you don't own that program, this is a very similar way to do it:
https://photography-on-the.net …p?p=10276507&postcount=44

and this thread has a lot of examples of this style
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=880373

Phamsters are most excellent.
