Nick, I really enjoy your wedding shots. Another nice set.

Thanks!
I just finished another one. I think that's probably the last one for this season. Looking forward to my vacation to Italy in November!

Been awhile since I posted but finally sold all my Canon Stuff, 'cept for 430exII flash. still useful for OCF.
Just had enough money for 70-200 VRII and boy. this is a truly great lens. In a way, it's same sharpness when it comes to 6.3+ with 70-300 VRII but I've only been using this at 2.8-4 and so like it so far. About the same weight and size (with hood) as my Sigma 180 Macro.
First day yesterday to test it.
200mm@2.8

Great shot man, it's like half portrait, half landscape! Loving it.

I wonder what's going on. I know you saw at least one photo that I posted at SM. That's weird. Can you see other folks' SM galleries?

Can you see this for instance?

Really nice work Nick on the wedding shots. Stellar. Might have to ask you for some pointers as my friend and I have been approached for a possible wedding. Not sure im up to par just yet for something of the nature.

Yeah I can see that one. Most 'mug galleries are blocked at work. We're really particular about that stuff for some reason.

Oh yeah, some issues...:(

My D700 is having that dreaded hot-shoe issue with the SB-900. I had the tell tale signs yesterday at the wedding where the SB-900 would begin to trigger on its own. Pre flashes firing off, etc. Turn it off. Reset the flash on the hot shoe and it would be fine for a while, but then back to acting all crazy.

Also, sounds like there's something loose in my 70-200VRII. Feels like it too. Lens performs fine, but this is probably not normal.

Well, it's a good thing I have no more weddings to shoot. Time to send in some of my gear. I'll probably send one of my D700 in. It's the "older" one I got back in May 2010. When I get that one back, I'll send in the other one. I don't baby my gear, so maybe that's what did it in. I know the D700 is known to have a weak hotshoe. I need to watch how I handle my gear. I have to admit, I sometimes grab the camera by the mounted flash when I am in a hurry. It's only for a second though, then I grab it by the body. That's probably a stupid thing to do, especially if I have a heavier lens mounted and using the grip. My other D700 doesn't have that problem but that one has less mileage...

I'll probably send my 70-200VRII in right before I go to Italy. Not bringing that lens.

Good thing all this is still under warranty!

Ah well...sh*t happens I suppose...

D700s are known to have a weak hotshoe, they all fail eventually, but repair is free if it's under warranty.

Yeah, I've known about that for a while now. Was hoping it didn't happen to me but it seems like it's just a matter of time. It's a good thing it happened now. The season is winding down and I still have some warranty left!

A little disappointed with all this but I guess it comes with the territory when you don't baby the gear and use it week in and week out.

A little surprised at my gimpy 70-200VRII though. Just sounds like something is loose in there. Again, good thing it's under warranty. Never dropped, but I don't baby it when I put it on the ground either.

This one seems like it should be a recall sort of situation

I have people who look at me and panic when i take my 100-400 off and place it lenshood down on the ground between my legs when i quickly switch to a different lens for a few shots, like im abusing my gear or something ;)

Also my 100-400 has been knocked against a doorframe a few times...

Then again, my 100-400 has been acting off the last few times i shot with it, Definately not as good as she used to be..Dunno if its the 100L and my 15-85 being so good that it makes everything else look soft or if i did accidently knock it out of alignment or something

My D300 with a sigma 18-50 fell in a non padded backpack from a 4 foot tall bench. When I heard the thud a trip to B&H flashed in my mind. But nothing was wrong with it. Last time I use a non camera bag. I got lucky or it could take hit.

You'd think given it was a known problem they'd have fixed the design, but apparently not. It's mostly because of the SB900, i've read, because that flash is so heavy.

I still need some neoprene to cover the SB900 hotshoe lock which sticks into my head.

I'm surprised the 70-200 VR II needs repairs though. The Canon version was a tank, it just worked. Apparently Canon replaced the IS unit once when I sent it for calibration, no idea why since it seemed fine, but they didn't charge me.

I don't baby my equipment, I put it on the ground when I don't need it. I don't drop it though, and I make sure it's treated reasonably well. Scratches don't bother me at all though, i'd almost rather have equipment that looked good but used rather than brand new looking stuff.
