I dropped my 18-105 from waist height it bounced a few times still works fine...(not a multi thousand dollar lens but that my contribution)

Question for you guys... just purchased a 28mm F2.8D lens from a guy on POTN he said the aperture blades were stuck at 4.5 and they are (got the lens for 60) well inspecting the lens seems like there is a oily substance inside the lens causing the blades to be sticky has this happened to any one? The AF works so i dont think its water damage any thought's? Im taking it to a service shop tomorrow which was my plan to do im thinking i can have a good lens for under 150 :)

You'd think given it was a known problem they'd have fixed the design, but apparently not. It's mostly because of the SB900, i've read, because that flash is so heavy.

I still need some neoprene to cover the SB900 hotshoe lock which sticks into my head.

I'm surprised the 70-200 VR II needs repairs though. The Canon version was a tank, it just worked. Apparently Canon replaced the IS unit once when I sent it for calibration, no idea why since it seemed fine, but they didn't charge me.

I don't baby my equipment, I put it on the ground when I don't need it. I don't drop it though, and I make sure it's treated reasonably well. Scratches don't bother me at all though, i'd almost rather have equipment that looked good but used rather than brand new looking stuff.

I mean, no biggie. I'll just send my D700 in under warranty but of course there is the long term concern.

As for the 70-200VRII, beats me. Perhaps it's a fluke. Again, I'll send it in under warranty. Seems like it does not affect IQ. Just feels like something is loose in there.

Yeah, it's not like I bang around my gear. I treat my gear well. I don't drop it on the ground for instance. But I definitely don't baby it!:D

No, I still use them. Turns out I had that one incident where it slipped off my shoulders. It never happened again, but I am more careful about it now. I'll live with the straps for now since they are very comfortable afterall. I have a feeling the ones with heavy rubber won't be as comfortable so...

The Canon Crumpler straps have a lot more rubber netting underneath, I really think its a better design than the common crumpler strap... I just hate mine since the color is red, so I bought a black standard one, its as comfortable but with somewhat lesser rubber netting.
