I had a love/hate relationship with the 50L. When it was "on", boy was it a thing of beauty. Seems like we can say that about all the 50mm lenses we are talking about.:(

Nikon needs to make a "pro" level 50mm in line with the other primes they've been releasing. Perhaps a AF-S 50mm f/1.2 G. That would be sweet. Probably never going to happen. Just don't get why Nikon won't release anything worth a damn at 50mm.

Because we all have the sigma already......j/k

Nick when you turn your focus ring on your Sigma does it feel like it binds or makes a screeching noise? i'm playing with MF and i keep getting this sound/ feeling

Nikon really does need a decent 50mm lens. F1.4 is plenty wide, it just needs to focus quickly and accurately.

I'm pretty well convinced that Sigma can't make a good lens to save themselves. In my experience with their primes they're zero for four.

I don't recall it making such noise. It's not the smoothest though. Remember, the Sigma 50 is pretty cheaply made IMO.

Just hanging around waiting for the Pacquiao fight to start. In the meantime I fit the 4 lenses, D700, and SB-900 into my SlingShot 200.

All I can say it's, it's friggin heavy!

I think the 14-24 and 24-70 is what really kills it. They are pretty hefty lenses. My primes aren't really all that heavy.

So I need to think about this a little more. Definitely don't want to lug that much around!

seriously...take off the grip, take out the flash (you don't need it with fast lenses) and leave the 24-70 at home if you are taking the 50 and the 85. OR...just take the 14-24, 24 & 85.

Stop being reasonable will ya? You know me? I love to torture myself.;)

Nope, not bringing the grip. Yeah, it's a matter of the 4th lens. I just don't feel comfortable with the gap between 24 and 85. I think Steven brought up a good point before about having 3 lenses that can do 24mm if I bring the 24-70, which is kind of ridiculous.

I'll have to think about this one and torture myself for a few more days!:o

I deduce that he is referring to the successors of d300s and d700 will be out in 2011

Day 3 with my camera today, I can say im about 75% comfortable with its menus and controls. I still can't believe how advance this camera is in comparison to Canon's affordable FF offering. I'm still gushing about all its features. Hard to imagine how else could Nikon improve its D700 line. Maybe more resolution and a video?

Would you like a lower base ISO too? (100)
