so i have just gotten a d700 and a 24-70 lens... :) feels good - way to many buttons though :) would have liked a wheel pn the back... otjerwise feels very solid. file size on the other hans is like my 5d from 2004. anyway what do you guys use for landscaping iso 200? hope to contribute soon!!

You want big files?! Going back to 12MP from my 18MP 7D meant I didn't need to upgrade my computer so soon!

The D700 has dials, why would you want a wheel? There are buttons everywhere, some of them programmable. When you first get it it feels like a crazy engineer put the buttons in random places. That feeling never really goes away.

I use whatever iso I need to get a good shutter speed. For landscapes that's probably ISO200, since i'd be using a tripod anyway.

I deduce that he is referring to the successors of d300s and d700 will be out in 2011

Yeah, he revised it and it makes sense now :)

The only issues with having all these buttons and switches is that they can be accidentally changed very easily. At least this is often times a problem for me.

Would you like a lower base ISO too? (100)

Really doesn't matter for me. ISO 200 on the D700 is very clean so the only reason I would want ISO 100 would be to force a slower shutter speed.

The C/S/M switch got knocked on my assistants camera at the reception, it took me about 15 seconds to work out what was going on. The M position on that switch is completely redundant, at least for AF-s lenses that have the same switch on the lens anyway.

It really never bothered me since ISO 200 is clean. ISO 50-100 isn't really critical to what I shoot so I guess for others, perhaps it can be a source of frustration.

Man i knew the sb-900 brought gels with it and now that i purchased a 580 ex ii it upsets me canon doesnt implement a similar system. The sb-900 brings a nice piece which goes over the flash and lets you slide in the gel. The camera then automatically adjusts white balance to fit the gel. On the canon side i have to basically create such a thing. Really upsetting.:mad::mad:

Isnt there something like Iso Low 1 or along those lines to give you iso 100 and 50?

I can honestly tell you that I have never used that before, but yes, it's a nice touch. I definitely like my SB-900 better than I did the 580EXII.

I think there's a low 1 which gives you ISO 100. But again, I have no need for it and ISO 200 is clean so it doesn't matter. I can see how this may be an issue for those wanting to slow down the shutter speed in daylight, etc. Never a problem for me though.

Yea I was pretty pissed when I opened up my sb900 and saw the cool case, gels, stofen, and lock mechanism ( which btw is leagues better than canon ).

I suspect it's a physical limitation. The LO mode is ISO100.

The only portion which bothers me is the gel integration. That comes in handy when matching to ambient light. Going bob villa is really discouraging when you know the competition offers a good solution built in for a few bucks more. Locking mechanism on the 580 ex II is solid no real complaints there.
