The only portion which bothers me is the gel integration. That comes in handy when matching to ambient light. Going bob villa is really discouraging when you know the competition offers a good solution built in for a few bucks more. Locking mechanism on the 580 ex II is solid no real complaints there.

I don't know man. It seems rather gimmicky to me. I certainly never used it. I suppose it's nice to have. You can always buy gels on the cheap too.

Got my SlingShot 202 today. Other than the new tripod holder, I actually prefer the older one. I think it's actually slightly bigger too, but that could be b/c it's all stretched out. But whatever. I need a bag with a tripod holder and it was cheap, like $89, so what the heck.

BTW, interested in getting this (external link) tripod. Folds to 15" and it's 2.5lbs. Aluminum. $154. My Slik CF tripod is still a little too big for my trip to Italy.

Pretty much decided on my Italy kit. D700 no grip, 24G, 85G, 14-24, 24-70, SB-900, and the new tripod I'll buy this week. I'm just going to bite the bullet and carry the load. I've carried much worse so I don't think it'll be a huge problem. Then again, I've never actually went on a 10 day trip with this much gear before, so I might actually run into problems. Hey, my wife will be there to help me out in such situations!:o

Sup familiar face from the 1D mark II thread about 1.5 years ago? :p

It'll work, but you will probably have to convert the mount if it hasn't been converted yet. That's a pre-AI lens, so mounting it without the proper conversion can damage your AF motor/aperture lever.

with age i have become RTFM, but i cant find how to get the camera while on tripod to fire all my bracketed shotd in a sequence. for ex on canon you have the drive on fps and the delayed timer then when pressing the buttun it takes all the bracketed shots

Anything that isn't pre-AI will fit, and pre-AI converted to AI will fit. So AI, AI-s, AF, AF-D, AF-S, all good.

Yeah, remote release is your best option there. I haven't found anything for that, but it doesn't bother me since I don't bracket.

Heheh, the things are beastly. You really get pretty much the same exact feature set in the D700 though. The only reason I have a pair of D3s is because I shoot professional sports, otherwise I'd probably have just a single D700 to be honest.

So does anybody know if the af 24 2.8 always have the focus shift problem. I had one for a few days and the autofocus broke and i returned it. It was a used copy and has a lot of shifting of the focus. Does all the copies have this problem.

My "Nikon Lens Series E" 36-72mm manual focus lens isn't working on my d90. Its a very old lens. But I can't take any shots when its attached.

You can use the interval timer, bit fiddly going through the menu each time though, just get a remote release.........or set it to burst mode and hold down the shutter it will only take the amount of bracketed exposures

Nikon lens compatibility is a bit tricky, apparently. I only have AF-s G model lenses, so I don't really know much about the antique lenses.
