Right after you give up waiting and buy a D700. It's such an effective, successful camera that I doubt Nikon are in a hurry to replace it. I only got my D700s a few months ago, and even if the D800 comes out tomorrow i'll still feel I have a great effective camera that was incredible value. In my case the photographer needs upgrading more than the camera.

Check out nikonrumours.com for rumours.

That's definitely the case with me! :p

How is the new 24-130 F4? I read some good reviews, esp the one on ishootshows.com

that's knitpicking... haha I asked Tim and our resident lens critic Nicksan, and they both have no problem whatsoever with the shortened FL at near MFD

the fact remains its a very very good lens... as according to many, its not inferior to the Canon 70-200mm IS II version, but Different.

first drawback today, long story short, i normally send clients proof images at 50% jpg7. today a client asked for a hi res version and I said this is it... i have tried Nikon etc etc, but for what they want magazines and billboards it should be alright. as long as they dont wanna make more framed enlargements for the office... where it might be seen, problem is that i sometimes have to crop bits out as the golf course is under construction and what is left is about 8 mp.. with the 5d2 i keep about 14mp its a big difference...

8MP to 14MP might feel like a big difference, but it's only the difference between 3300 pixels on the longest side and 4500 pixels on the longest side. That would change a 30" print from 110 to 150 ppi. That's not really a huge difference, and may or may not be visible.

You can always get a D3x if you want huge files.
