it's the cost. We'd love the new hatch, but even a WRX is too much for us now with the house and kid. I wish my WRX was a wagon, but we're making it work. Once it's done, we'll get something hatch/wagonish that's <$20k and gets good mileage (30 in town 40 on the hwy) and I'll have fun in the MINI.

Don't get me wrong, I love my WRX, especially in the rain/snow, but the MINI (non S) is honestly more fun to drive. It's much more fun to drive a slow car fast (if it handles, and god damn does the MINI handle) than a fast car slow. Speed is fun, but it's just hard to behave in even a WRX all the time. I can't imagine the tickets I'd get in a STI.....

I wasn't much for the hatches but they grew on me, expecially the STi with the more agressive styling. It's the most well behaved we-rounded STi yet. Very nice.
I totally know what you mean. The car I had the most fun in was a '99 Civic Si. Great little car man.

Went looking for some good wildflower shots yesterday, but no big patches of them yet. It was late, so got the SB800 out and mounted it on my carbon-based life form light stand (my hiking buddy) and shot a few pics.

For you easterners, we were out in t-shirts because it was in the 70s. :)

I like that shot a lot Dean, very well lit. The lighting makes the whole shot!

Hey I'm a Washingtonian, you know, 50 degree no shirt guy? Oh year, right here baby.

^ I LOVED the new hatch as soon as they showed it which is unusual for me... Normally I warm up to new designs (but the new outback will never be warmed up to... *shudder*).

Anyway, if you want to see some 12mm shots of my Kid running around the house at 6400, check here:
http://newschoolofphotography.com …elias-@-12mm-indoors.html (external link)
that pretty well shows you the WORST case scenario with the 12-24mm and it's corner issues. That is NOT how I'd use the lens normally. I didn't even like using the 14-24mm inside due to the slowness of the glass.... I just had a new toy and my wide fast prime hasn't even shipped yet, so I was playing.

gosh. I've been playing (thanks to a suggestion from someone on the cafe) with live view and my 35 1.4 ai-s lens. That lens has been sitting un-used for months because I could't focus it at 1.4 and I didn't want an mf lens at 2.8 (why bother when the 24-70 is so good and af). Anyway, oh wow. I suddenly REALLY like this lens.

Live View zoomed in rules for narrow DoF stuff, especially macro.

I haven't really needed it for my 100mm but with wide angles and 1.4 aperture, I just suck at focusing without it.

yeah, it's soooo hard to tell what's in focus in the tiny viewfinder view, even with a FF viewfinder. At about 50mm I'm OK, but any wider than that I'm SOL.

That is one hell of a tongue!
Live View MF is the deal! Is this your first time using it after all these bodies Lisa? The tough part for me is the framing when zoomed in. Takes a bit o PP to make 'er right in the end.

lol!
And yep, sort of. I tried using it once but I hated it that with nikon you couldn't meter in live view. So I never used it again.

There is a trick about framing that my husband taught me last night. Works so well. You pick your focus point after you switch to live view. So you look through the viewfinder to meter, switch to live view, pick your focus point, then you can zoom and center what you are focusing on and it doesn't mess with your framing. I don't get it but it works. So yesterday I just metered first and then did that step by step. I was amazed at how well it worked.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that. LOL! I'm great with the 100 from the viewfinder but SUCKED with the 35. I'm glad to be able to use that lens again.
