Got my first school sports contract this week, and will be in need of a full size backdrop for teams. Just need one, would prefer something that is durable enough for a stuffbag. Suggestions are appreciated.

I suggest finding a decent background on-site. Get up high, and shoot on the gym floor (if you have access) and use the floor as the background. Closed bleachers is another idea to use as a background.

You would need some whopper of a backdrop otherwise.

I'm usually not a fan of the bleacher shots, but if you can find something with the school logo or something else interesting that might work. Shooting down onto the court can be a good shot.

Take a look at this

It takes a simple bleacher shot and turns it into something pretty fantastic!

Thanks. Based on the budget, the photoshop route isn't feasible unless I'm shooting green screen. I wonder if I could take a 10' x 24' and go sideways, using the gym as the floor.

No where near big enough.

I have a 20x30 soft gray backdrop from backdropfactory.com
Works perfect for large group shots where the location itself is not suitable background.
It gets crumpled into a ball and stuffed into a large duffel bag for transport and storage.

(For the attached shot, I had about 4 ft to spare left-to-right)

Nick, this is perfect. It's a little pricey for me starting out, but its nice to know that its a good value.

Nick what is your lighting setup in your display photo?

Gatorboy, love the idea of shooting high on the gym floor!

Hi Mike,
Nothing fancy for this one. Just a pair of AB800 strobes with reflector umbrellas on about 5 feet to either side of the camera.
