No no no... this is a very common opinion but it´s not true. Money is something that has real value. Banknote (Do you see the name? It´s not money, it´s just a note written by some banker) was an abstract representation of money... but it´s not anymore. Why - I will explain it later.
In fact yes... or better said they are only worth the trust; the trust that if I accept them, I will be able to get something for them in the future - but nobody knows what.
Many years ago they were worth certain amount of silver as you can see below, on every banknote there was a sentence saying: "Silver certificate. This certifies that there is on deposit in the treasury of The United States of America one dollar in silver payable to the bearer on demand" but now it´s just something like Monopoly notes - you can buy an avenue with it but not because it has some real value but only because the rules say it must be accepted as something valuable. Once the rules change or you decide to start playing another game, it will be just worthless paper.
