deeper than average? you don't drive a $200 beater car to work do you? anything over that price is excess, but you justify it. if you can afford to spend $15,000 on a car when in reality all you need is a $50 bicycle, or $200 beater with a heater, than you can afford to spend half that on cameras on lenses (this is my philosophy, i've got my wife trained, so don't screw it up

)
5D, 5D II, 5d III...
its not just a hobby! its a way of life

No, I still drive my first car which I bought for 8,890USD in two separate checks and it's a '99 Honda Prelude. Most people upgrade their cars when they've grown up to realize that this car just doesn't represent them as a person.
That's when I know my thinking is going down the wrong path for reasons to invest further into an automobile.
It's not a better, but it is an eleven year old car.
Oh, and on the whole 'it's a way of life', you're right. I've owned (in this order), 5D, 40D, 1D III, D700 (srs), 5D II and finally and presently, the 1Ds II.
I won't ever consider a 5D until they include a 100% VF coverage on one of their bodies and focusing on AF improvement outside the center points. It is a standard I have for all my camera bodies now. It may not be nearly as important to somebody else but it is a selling factor to me at least. I will admit that I much preferred the NR of the 5D II over the D700 across the range.
It still wasn't enough, but it could've been if the body had one almighty analog button added to the back of it.
