The fps on the 5D2 is good enough. It's not a sportshooter. There are other cameras for that.

I agree on the AF, but I only use center point and that's good enough for my needs.

Check out this post for some video clips with 5Dm2. Obviously, they managed it quite well with manual focus: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=982041

An absolute must. After a couple of years I must confess the usefulness for filming has worn off. Sure it's been fun, but unless on a tripod is a bit pointless given the simply ergonomics of a DSLR body with a lens attached it make camera shake completely unavoidable; meaning you might as well spend a couple of hundred quid on a dedicated film camera.

That said, some of the footage I have got out it on a tripod with some of my lenses is simply wonderful; so I don't for a moment 'resent' the new technology, just wish I would remember not to leave my settings on such tight apertures. Things fall out of focus quickly ;)

Congrats! I've been waiting for it, so I can upgrade my 7D. I've been really craving FF. I've been on edge to just go get the MK2, but I really do not have a need yet, just a want. So I will wait ;-)a

Well, I hope they hold the 5D MKIII for at least a year, I just picked up a MKII and got it in the mail today... Or at least they release it next week, so I can still take the MKII back... But knowing my luck, it will come out in 2 weeks and one day...

I have only taken 10 pics with the 5D2, and all playing in the house, so I can't really comment much, but the quality of the pics is just awesome!!! Up until today I only had the 7D.

You noticed a big jump in quality from the 7D?
Mainly high ISO or just regular shots as well?

Well, Just my 2 cents on this...

I too am waiting to hear about the 5d mk 3. I too went the 7d over the 5dII rout. (mainly because I shoot a lot of out door sports stuff) and AF.

I have shot with a 5dII a bit... bout 200 shots or so with my friends. I just recently got to shoot with a d700 and a D3s at my local camera store. First, let me say that shooting with a nikon was weird!!! The aperature is on the front of the camera... I am so used to controling the app by the thumbwheel, that having to take my finger off the shutter and fumble for a blind wheel was... irriatating, to be honest. The other thing is the light meter is backwards from how we (canon shooters) are used to. I saw the bar one stop to the right... So, I clicked 2 clicks right on the shutter wheel, shot and now I was way dark! the shadows are on the right and highlights on the left. this threw me a little bit, until I figured out what was going on. I'm sure getting used to the differences would just take time, but... it was AWKWARD:D

That being said... the auto focus system blows the 5dII out of the water. Even though there are tons more points... I have to admit that I actually like the way the 7d groups them together. The D700 was either fully auto or single point. I was shooting indoor at ISO 5000. The images were vertually noise free. Even more so than with the 5D II. I'm guessing the reason for this is both are full frame but the 5d is 22MP and the 700 is 12MP (I think).

The owner of the shop has both a d3s and d3x (his cameras) He let me take his camera and go shoot around the shopping center and in his shop. this Camera was better on noise at iso 10,000 than my 7d is at maybe 800... 1600 for sure! I was completely blown away by the 3Ds! Tack sharp images at f2.8 at iso 6000. Just to be fair, I would love to shoot with a 1d too!

I am going to wait and see what canon says about the full frame line up this year... all the rumors are that it will be the later half of this year, that they will anounce the new line up. I am hoping that the 5d3 comes out, has at least the AF system in the 7d... if they do, I will buy it the day they come out. If not, I will probably jump ship.

I have a feeling the 5D III will be a game changer, they really need to come out with something big to displace Nikon, especially with the D700s right around the corner.

I would really be impressed if they not only put in a good AF system they dropped MP in favor of IQ & Noise performance. I don't know if 22MP is too much for a FF but 18MP on the 7D is definitely too much to cram into the 1.6x sensor, and 7D II will just make it worse trying to do 22MP or even 28MP.

Agreed about the 7d... If you shoot over iso 400... You have to reduce the noise if you don't want it noticeable on prints. The rumors I'm reading on canonrumors.com are saying the 5dIII will be 28 MP. I was wondering if that's just too much. In the camera store they display some of the local shooters photos. There are a few 30" prints that were shot with a d700. I have to admit... They look incredible! From what I've seen... I want a full frame with with lower MP!

I haven't printed large prints with the 7D, but I would really question if most of the noise over 400 would really be picked up in prints. What size prints are you talking about. I know I can take 3200 ISO images that would print without any negative noise at 8"x10" pretty easily and probably much higher if I wanted to.

3200??? With a 7d? You can see noise at 1600 iso on any image of any size! From an 8x10" print. Most of the prints I make are 8x10, 11x17 or 13x19. That's just what I can print at home. Even just goofing around if it gets dark enough to have to raise the iso to 800... I know I'm not going to get anything worth keeping.

Both the 5d and d700 are better iq at iso 5000 than the 7d at 1600

I'm not trying to bash the 7d... I love this camera. This is just my immediate reaction from shooting with a 7d for every day for a year, compared to spending one day shooting with a 5dii and a d700 and d3s another.

I'm a convert... Full frame is the only way to fly!

This was shot at 3200 ISO, with no noise reduction. I doubt I will have much problems printing this at 8x10 or even 13x19.

As Canon EOS 5D Mark II successor, Canon EOS 5D Mark III is said to come with powerful features. The following are some likely specifications:

* 24-million-pixel sensor
* Dual DIGIC 4 processors or new processor
* Articulated LCD screen with 1,040,000 dots
* Improved AF with a minimum of 19 AF points (all cross-type)
* Control over refocusing speed in continuous AF mode
* Updated body shell
* iFCL metering with dual sensors
* Electronic level
* Wireless flash control via a built-in ST-E2 Speedite Transmitter or similar
* In-camera image rating
* Dedicated live view button and video switch

It is said Canon EOS 5D Mark III will be released in early 2011. We will update when we heard more information, so stay tuned!

They also said there will be a Nikon D800 to replace the D700 in the first quarter of 2011. http://camera.downloadatoz.com …ailed-specifications.html (external link)

Cheers, Patrick

^If Canon and Nikon release such cameras with those features, I might pass on the 1Ds IV. :)

It's all just rumors, I've heard 28MP as well. Just need to wait and see what really gets released.
