Or alternatively, Canon was forced to slash prices to remain competitive, and as such has lowered it's gross margin, and profitability per sale, and decreased a percentage of their revenue that can be invested in R&D, to combat this Canon is under pressure to sell more units that it's competition to achieve the same level of profitability.

These posts are funny. Especially the 7D owners trying to come up with reasons why the 1 series was not for them either like they were ever in the market to buy one of those too. It's not worth arguing with these people. They were never going to buy one. All the very best. Vinny. I initially loved my 5D2; it came to bounce on my 40D, and shone like a diamond with what I had being getting out the latter. I loved the difference so much, I flogged my 40D and got a second 5D2 and was seriously content for well over a year, before I started to get seriously frustrated with what everyone **** about the camera, it's AF. But still a lovely camera if you don't try to get to much out of that. I sold one of them and got a 1D4 and 1Ds3 and have been purring like a Cheshire Cat ever since; though I note the lack of FF off the 1D4, it's a complete work horse in every other regard. 1D bodies are completely lovely to work with as well; so no going back on anything there. I tend to use my 5D2 for low key social events when i'm basically expected to be there as the 'Photographer,' in my social circle, and take shots, even when boozed up. To which it performs all could be asked of it. I could never go back to a 1.6 crop though, hence why the 7D whilst impressive, holds no attraction for me James

Lol, for me it goes much further than just lenses, I would have to sell off all my Speedlights and FelxTT5's, even ebay/paypal fees add-up to make it an expensive switch, that's even without factoring the loss of selling the gear for less than you bought it for.

And then, just per chance, I happened to click on your DeviantART link. All I'm going to say is this:: Get the gear OUT OF YOUR MIND and start taking better pictures. By constantly engaging in this kind of discussion, you're missing the entire point of photography as your gallery shows. Oh, and here's a link to my own photography page because I'm sure you're curious. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bengford Let me be very clear: Am I a great photographer? ***NO*** I've still got a LONG way to go in mastering composition and light, but even my paltry little gallery made with dirt cheap gear proves that if you're focused on the picture and not on the camera, you can get great images. That's my 2 cents. Take it or leave it. This is a gear thread. Isnt that the point? To speak about gear in a hypothetically titled cameras thread? He can come in here and speak about it since thats the point. Had his rant been elsewhere then your comment is warranted but the putdown of his images isnt. Suggesting what could have improved his images would work but this "start taking better pictures" Helps no one because what might be great images to you could be horrible images to someone else. -Omar- Flickr

We will start the debate again same time next year for the 5D MK IV or the 7D MK III, or the 1D MKX....Canon is doing this for a reason. If they come up with a perfect camera, then no one will buy their other lines. Only the pros can afford such a perfect Canon body, and every one else will go else where. Why do you think there has not been a 18-200 F1.8 L IS lens? You think because Canon can make one? Think again...they want you to buy four lenses instead of one.

That dude was just looking to show off, and is obviously just being false, when he implies he's trying to encourage others to take better pictures, normally I don't mind a little trumpet blowing, but not when the person tramples over other peoples photography to do so... it's just poor etiquette.
