Why don't you just switch. I don't get why all this debate. In the end they are both pretty much the same.

currently, not even close, and why I don't switch? because I have multiple lenses and i still have some hope that next camera canon won't screw up.

I drive a Chevy to work. I am pretty sure a Ford will get me there just as well! :)

its called business, price difference between 60D and D7000 is about 100-150 bucks, and only reason why 60D is lower and Nikon is highe because Canon failed at producing competive product so Nikon can afford raising the price a bit and still get probably more sales.

Or alternatively, Canon was forced to slash prices to remain competitive, and as such has lowered it's gross margin, and profitability per sale, and decreased a percentage of their revenue that can be invested in R&D, to combat this Canon is under pressure to sell more units that it's competition to achieve the same level of profitability.

...Let me also say something

This is why its good to have two good companies

Competition in the end only benefits and rarely harms the consumer...

We should be thankful we have two good companies who push innovation and drive each other to make great products...

im failing to think of a good analogy

OMG, Seriously ???
So even though you got a tone of £$€ invested in Canon only gear, it's just like switching car insurance right?

Lenses are easy to sell, I just don't see why its worth complaining where there are so many camera options. I got a 60D for $850 new and its much better then a rebel but that is my opinion. If I did not like Canon I would move on to something else.

I find it funny that pretty much all of the people **** about the 5D2 are 7D owners who could not afford the 5d2 and were never in the market for one in the first place :-)
If the 5D Mk3 came out and was perfect, they would not buy it anyway. they would just wait for the 7D mkII.
These posts are funny. Especially the 7D owners trying to come up with reasons why the 1 series was not for them either like they were ever in the market to buy one of those too.
It's not worth arguing with these people. They were never going to buy one.
All the very best.
Vinny.

I initially loved my 5D2; it came to bounce on my 40D, and shone like a diamond with what I had being getting out the latter. I loved the difference so much, I flogged my 40D and got a second 5D2 and was seriously content for well over a year, before I started to get seriously frustrated with what everyone **** about the camera, it's AF. But still a lovely camera if you don't try to get to much out of that. I sold one of them and got a 1D4 and 1Ds3 and have been purring like a Cheshire Cat ever since; though I note the lack of FF off the 1D4, it's a complete work horse in every other regard. 1D bodies are completely lovely to work with as well; so no going back on anything there. I tend to use my 5D2 for low key social events when i'm basically expected to be there as the 'Photographer,' in my social circle, and take shots, even when boozed up. To which it performs all could be asked of it. I could never go back to a 1.6 crop though, hence why the 7D whilst impressive, holds no attraction for me

Lol, for me it goes much further than just lenses, I would have to sell off all my Speedlights and FelxTT5's, even ebay/paypal fees add-up to make it an expensive switch, that's even without factoring the loss of selling the gear for less than you bought it for.

It's not a decision that most people can afford to take lightly, when you choose a Camera manufacturer, your literally marrying into their system.

All this talk of gear...

And then, just per chance, I happened to click on your DeviantART link.

All I'm going to say is this:: Get the gear OUT OF YOUR MIND and start taking better pictures. By constantly engaging in this kind of discussion, you're missing the entire point of photography as your gallery shows.

Oh, and here's a link to my own photography page because I'm sure you're curious.

Let me be very clear: Am I a great photographer? ***NO*** I've still got a LONG way to go in mastering composition and light, but even my paltry little gallery made with dirt cheap gear proves that if you're focused on the picture and not on the camera, you can get great images.

That's my 2 cents. Take it or leave it.

This is a gear thread. Isnt that the point? To speak about gear in a hypothetically titled cameras thread? He can come in here and speak about it since thats the point. Had his rant been elsewhere then your comment is warranted but the putdown of his images isnt. Suggesting what could have improved his images would work but this "start taking better pictures" Helps no one because what might be great images to you could be horrible images to someone else.

Beginners worry about gear, professionals worry about skill and masters worry about light

We will start the debate again same time next year for the 5D MK IV or the 7D MK III, or the 1D MKX....Canon is doing this for a reason. If they come up with a perfect camera, then no one will buy their other lines. Only the pros can afford such a perfect Canon body, and every one else will go else where. Why do you think there has not been a 18-200 F1.8 L IS lens? You think because Canon can make one? Think again...they want you to buy four lenses instead of one.

That dude was just looking to show off, and is obviously just being false, when he implies he's trying to encourage others to take better pictures, normally I don't mind a little trumpet blowing, but not when the person tramples over other peoples photography to do so... it's just poor etiquette.

Nice deal man, now for that price id not complain about the 60D!

And even if i SEEM critical and like a Nikon fanboy, I'm really not

I could use a gaming analogy about stifling innovation..

Activision is one of the two big publishers in gaming right now, the other is EA, Activision has a habit of latching onto something good and then milking it for all its worth until the IP is a husk, Usually taking what made something good and releasing a new game in the series every year, Fans will only tolerate this so much

They also treat their developers like absolute dog turds (Look up the Infinity Ward/Activision scandal that has lead several of the founders of Infinity Ward to SUE Activision)

If you havnt heard of them, They publish Guitar Hero and Call of Duty, among many other games, Guitar Hero/DJ Hero as a series is now canned after Guitar Hero Green Day, Band Hero and DJ Hero 2 pretty much tanked in sales, and they tanked in sales because Activision pretty much stopped "developing" the franchise and instead just started changing out tracks then reselling essentially the same game repeatedly at $60 a pop...

Given they also have -three- studios producing games in the Call of Duty series now to ensure they get a new one every year, i expect that Call of Duty is going to be completely killed as a franchise next year.....

And then theres the effect Call of Duty had on the gaming industry as a whole, Nowone actually makes something different because you cant get funding for "differnet" the marketing people have the idea "different doesnt sell" and they control who gets money, Instead we get "like call of duty but" games....

Of course Activision is also earning the ire of the gaming community for it, They basically are losing their hardcore gamers (Who will stick with you thick and thin) Casual gamers are a fickle bunch and they just run off to the next new shiny "hot" game

As i said, This can only last so long, and i already see this crumbling on them, Activisions ways were profitable for the last few years...They broke sales records even....but now? Hmn..I think their golden goose is gonna lay its last egg...I know a lot of people who already said no more call of duty games because of what an utterly overhyped piece of tripe Black Ops was...Black Ops created a cult of "OMG MUST BUY" for a lot of people because of the sheer numbers...and the game itself really wasnt that great

Keep in mind just because something sells well doesnt mean its guaranteed to always sell well, And high sales does not mean your company is doing well...You can sell out today, but tomarrow have an empty house all because the last night was horrible...

And EA was the most hated gaming company a few years ago, Activision used to be really good, Now the roles are simply reversed...
