Been fooling around with some high key, close crop, B/W techniques and wonder if this looks good to you. I know the left side of her face is a bit blown but it is the eyes I am trying to emphasize here. Any comments on the crop or PP techniques would be appreciated!

It's a really close crop.
I'd prefer a bit farther back.
And smooth the skin a bit.
The eyes look great.. I'd just lighten the right eye a bit, and burn the edges of the irises

Good points you make my friend. Is there an easy way to burn the edges of the iris without getting them shakey looking? Only way I know is to use the burn tool and go over them manually and my hand isn't as steady on the mouse as it used to be.

I just use burn and dodge. Zoom in as much as you can, make the tool really small, and use small strokes. That way, if you screw up, you can easily just undo the last stroke, without ruining all your work.

Did a quick edit using your advice and I do believe it is an improvement! How does this look to you now?

The face still looks blown on the right hand side as we look at it. The eyes are looking better but I would still push the right eye a bit further if it were me.

Much better!
I, personally, don't mind the blown out side of her face.
I break rules ;)

maybe...the image is a little flat? I think you made a vast improvement with the post processing. I'm not a fan of the blown out side personally. You did an awesome job keeping the eyes sharp - i love the way they look.

Thanks for the input guys. When I pushed the brightness of the right eye (camera left) it looked very fake, which is why I left it only slightly brightened. I used a standard 45 deg. light set-up and there was sufficient modeling on the face when the shot was in its original color state. I guess the lighting got flattened during the b/w conversion and brightness push to get the high key look. I didn't actually do anything to the eyes at all except a bit of burning of the pupils and iris edges as suggested in the C&C.....her eyes are amazing as is and don't really need anything done to them to look great!
