At the moment, I am really tempted to buy the Canon 50D, but there are rumours that the Canon 60D is about to be released, the question is, should I wait until the 60D is released?

Will the new 60D include the movie function? If so, I might still go for the 50D as I have no need for the movie function at the moment

Go for the 50D. There's always something better that's going to come out. For the price, the 50D pretty much gets the job done.

It shouldn't be a long wait..
I would wait for the 60d just to see what other features it may have (perhaps same sensor/IQ as the 7D?) this would mean usable ISO6400. Of course if you don't want one, then prices will drop a bit on the 50D's.

When the 60D comes out, there will be a boat load of 50D's in the used section. Just like the 70-200 2.8 IS right now.

I don't like the idea of second hand cameras, something just puts me off them...

50D is a pretty good camera. If you want it, I'd just say go for it if it meets your needs and doesn't lack anything the 60D or 7D has.

The problem with waiting (be it for a computer, phone, camera, car or whatever) is that there is always something new coming out soon, and if you wait, you'll never buy anything. If you like the 50D, if it has the features you want, and if it meets your needs at the price your comfortable with, get it.

50D is an amazing camera. Shoulda stopped at the 40D IMO, everything else is overkill and gimmicky.
Just because something new comes out doesn't make the old series crap.

But this falls within my budget, I am really meaning to get the body, but maybe a lens or flash gun bundle if that is on offer

When the 60D is introduced I plan to get a 50D at the suddenly-plummeting price we always see for the previous model.

Maybe a low-mileage used one, or a refurb from Adorama (they offer a one year warranty on refurbs).

True, but the 60d should be out very soon, so worth the short wait IMO (and probable price drop of the 50d). Hell, I might get a 40d if they are like $400

I love my 50D more than my 5D, though I use my 5D more I have a better connection with my 50D if that makes sense. It makes me sad to sell it, though I rarely use it now that I went full frame.

I dont think id go back to crop, personally. Medium format would be my next camera.. If hassy keeps on sinking, though, I may consider one of them.

Whatever you get, the tech wont matter as much as will shooting with the cameras. I dont know why but its like it develops its own personality and works better in your hands because your more used to it, or have put more soul into the work you create for a long period of time with it.

When I bought my 50D I was happy. A few months later the 7D came out, and I still was happy. Ofcourse, I did not have the new AF system, more FPS or video, but I still don't care about that.
The 50D is a very capable camera which does the job very well. I use it for my school assigments, for the people who hire me and for my own pleasure of shooting. It never failed me thus far.
