Well maybe now is a good time to buy a 50d, I thought the 60D would have been out by now but they'll probably release the 1DsMK4 before it anyways.. could be a while.

I'm in the same boat, but will likely get the 50D. I'm not paying a lot more for the 7D, and refuse to wait weeks/months for the next thing to come out, even if the price is going to drop. I'm trying to change this thought process as this is what's kept these changes coming. All the swapping, purchases has turned my photography hobby into a camera fetish instead of what I WANT it to be, which is time spent bettering myself at taking pictures.

What I did was decide where the equipment was limiting me and what equipment I could afford to improve the situation.

Hence the 50D - better FPS, better ergonomics etc.

Lenses are next on the agenda though - going to update my range this year if finances are ok.

I am leaving myself a budget of £2K this year (first major upgrade in 3 years), I just want to get the 50D Bundle with a macro lens at the moment, and see if I can get some other useful items for my photography

That is a quote worthy of being in somebody's .sig! bw!

I do think that we (in a general sense) tend to obsess too much over gear. I like fancy new stuff as much as anybody else, but I've been fighting the urge to constantly buy/sell/upgrade my gear and instead concentrate on getting the best possible images with what I have. Plenty of people have taken far better photographs than mine with older, cheaper and less advanced kits than what I currently have. People on photography forums are usually far more concerned with getting the best possible images than your run-of-the-mill GWC, and some are hardcore "gear aficionados" (see "camera fetish" in above quote). It's easy to get sucked into the trap of thinking that, even as an amateur/hobbyist, you can't possibly shoot portraits or landscapes if you don't have a full-frame camera, or that you shouldn't even waste your time trying to shoot sports unless you have a 7D/1D series. In the meantime, plenty of other people who apparently never got the news are out there happily shooting portraits and sports with their Rebels and kit lenses, and not lying awake at night wondering if/when the 60D, 7DII, etc. will be released.

It's just like computers - if you want to be on the bleeding edge of technology you're going to pay handsomely, spend a lot of time waiting for "the next thing" (which may or may not be 'vaporware'), and be in a constant upgrade cycle. Otherwise, you can buy what's out there now (at a significantly lower cost), learn to work with what you have, and accept the fact that somebody somewhere will always have a newer/faster/better/more advanced rig than yours. It's purely up to you to decide which camp you fall in.

LOL dont compare a computer to camera's. Camera's main purpose is not software/games but image quality. Computers relyon software and games and your hardware NEEDS to be up to date to run the latest stuff decently while u dont need a 7d to produce stunning images. a 400d will be fine
