You may need a light behind her. Her body seems indistinguishable from the background.

I was playing around with just one strobe, but I could try another...

You can do a lot with one light if you have a silver reflector place it opposite the main and it should ad some separation.

While a little separation would be good, I think these are good. What modifier did you use?

Shadows under her eyes are very distracting.

The lighting doesn't seem appropriate for her age. I usually light young children with only subtle shadows on their faces, but I'm guessing that she was the nearest person to use as a model ;) The lighting would look better on a young adult, and using a reflector as has been suggested.

I agree that I think there should be some lighting behind her, but I do like the facial expressions in all of them.

Thanks guys. I was shooting through an umbrella. I will try a couple other lighting schemes soon. It seems the general consensus is not to use very dramatic lighting for young kids.

I love the third one...the first one just needs some catch lights, the eyes look completely black.

like number 3 the best as the light fall off is too great in the others and she blends in too much with the background but others have already said similar things.
