Hi i was trying to get to a point which i could then retouch in photoshop.
i started with one image altered exposure so i had 3 shots then merged to hdr in photshop.
Then used photomatix tonemapping i didnt go mad just trying things out at this point and had a image i was quite pleased with and would then alter using photoshop.
But when i hit the ok button in photomatix i got this pic that has areas that are blown out?
now they wasnt there in the prview so what happened and how do i stop this happening in the future.
Cheers shane

This image doesn't have any blown out areas. However, it's really over-done for my taste.

HDR can be an effect or a tool, and in images like this, the effect is so cheesy that you can't look past the HDR aspect and see a photo.

This photo has a lot of potential. You captured several layers of texture (Brick, moss, sky, wet leaves). However, when you look at this photo, you see the effect first, not the photo... = bad thing.

Everyone has there own opinion, and I'm sure this could easily start another debate here, but this photo looks just too fake to keep my attention.

Then again, I could be full of it and you could have a totally different idea of what looks good. That's why it's an art.

Keep shooting, and I'd really like to see this pic with the 'grunge' look.

Hi Joe
Look at the bottom of the pic the black fence is blown out all along it .
Also halfway up the front gate the right hand tower on the ledge and near top of that tower.
As said early days with hdr and just exploring what can do .
Looks like it something happened in the blacks but i need to try and understand what happened as pic was ok in preview it only happened when i hit ok.
Like i said as well i was just getting to a starting point with hdr i would then alter with ps dont take it that this was finished artical.
Cheers shane

The stuff on the fence I've seen before, and it appears typically when you get too heavy on the micro-contrast.
