Going to the Left Coast in May - I'm going to rent 3 lenses that, if planned right, will cover most of my shooting needs... I have a Canon XSI with only the 2 kit lenses... I like the 18-55 IS that came with the camera, but want to supplement that one with 3 others.. I'd like a Wide angle - beginnning at about 10mm; A Zoom that would pick up from the 55mm going out to about 150-200; and a superduperzoom that really gets out there for wildlife.. (400/500/600mm?)

My wife sz get the best, cuz I don't have to buy them, just rent for about 10 days... :D

Best suggestions for image quality and, if needed, lower light ... Which would you rent for those needs ??

Oh, was looking at LensRentals.com - but if yu have a better site, I'd be open....

tks,

Rick

For UWA, you have the 10-22 option. There's also the 16-35 f/2.8 or 17-55 f/2.8 IS. For tele, you could always go w/ the 100-400 and rent a 1.4x extender. For a good walk around lens, there's always the 24-105 f/4. I'm sure there will be a lot of other suggestions, but these are mine. Lensrentals.com is good to go. If you search "lens rentals" here on POTN, you will come up with plenty of threads discussing other companies.

My favorite all purpose group is my 24-70 f/2.8 and my 70-200 f/4 (though if you're renting and don't mind the extra rate, the f/2.8 would be better). It also makes a very good low light lens, and the image quality is spectacular. I'll throw in my 300 f/4 with 1.4x teleconverter for wildlife, but there's definitely a cost limitation for me there. A 400mm with teleconverter would be my ideal. Since you're looking for UWA, I agree with asysin on the 10-22 EF-S lens. I don't use mine very often, as the 24-70 is significantly sharper, but for the price, it's performed very well for me, and on a cropped-sensor camera, it's a very good option. It's not a very fast lens, but assuming you'll be using it for landscapes, that's really not an issue. Of course, now I've given you 4 lenses. The 10-22 is pretty small and very light, though. You'll barely notice it's there.

10-22, 70-200, and either the 100-400 or Bigma. Throw a TC/Extender in for good measure.

You may have to manual focus with that.

If it were me, I would go for the 10-22 for UWA, 18-55 kit and the Bigma for anything longer.

500mm should be long enough for most things esp on a vacation.
