I have a Zeikos Grip on my 40D and it works perfectly.

I'm considering this one for my 40D as well.

To the OP: I've heard great things about this Zeikos grip. Might wanna look into one for your 500D.

I just received a phottix grip today. They had originally sent me the wrong grip and when I informed them, they apologized up and down and sent out a new one immediately, without the return of the original. In my experience, the customer support was second-to-none. I accept that anyone can make a mistake and how they handle it is what separates the good from the bad. The grip itself seems quite sturdy, although i haven't tried it on a tripod with a bigger lens yet. Some people claim that some grips are flimsy at the tripod mount and the weight of a larger lens will cause the camera to droop due to the grip flexing.
