Interesting question… Gear + Room Humidifier?

Hey Everyone,

I currently keep all my gear inside my bedroom, usually in my lowepro bag but I usually keep the 7D out with a lens attached to be “ready” at anytime. Since it is winter, and extremely dry, I am looking to buy a little humidifier for my bedroom to run at night. Now, will this induce any type of issues with my equipment such as mold growth or anything? Would I be better leaving my equipment outside of the room at night?

I think i read in the camera manual that operating humidity is 85% or lower. So you'd have to have water dripping off the windows for it to really be a problem, and that would likely be uncomfortable for you as well...

I would tend to agree that your camera will be fine although I would tend to keep the bag closed.

Sounds good! Yeah, I would expect the humidity level to be 35-40% if I did purchase one, so nowhere close to the 85%!

I should have clarified my post about the bag being closed - I would have it closed anyway for ease of "grab and go" as much as for protection.

Mmm close it, maybe pop in some silica baggies just in case

4 years in Florida didn't seem to hurt my camera, so I'd say 35-40% humidity should be fine. Being a Florida boy living in South Dakota, I keep my humidifier set at 50%.
