Magic Lantern? To turn AGC off? I'm sure there are some people who are adventurous, but I don't know about the possibility of bricking the camera.

I got my T2i in late February (one of the first sold in the Boston area). Since then I've snapped a little over 5500 images and 2 have been corrupted. I've got a PNY card, which I take to be a reputable brand. I guess 1/2700 isn't a bad average, but has anyone else experienced file corruption with the T2i?

It's probably a lot more likely that the corruption is due to your memory card. Have you tried a low-level format on the T2i? You could try some utilities that scrutinize the data sectors and prevent any bad ones from ever getting used again. Hopefully someone more tech-savvy will chime in here with particular programs.

Have you considered buying a new SD card? They are cheap these days (look at Transcend 16GB on Amazon, for example), or Adorama was having a 50% off their Lexar Professional line as recently as yesterday. Simple Class 10 cards like the Transcend are very affordable these days and there's nothing worse than losing a shot due to corrupted memory.

May I ask how you like your Sigma 20mm? It's one of the lenses I've had my eyes on lately...there just aren't a lot of clear-cut choices in the land of wide primes, from my research so far.

5Dc, T2i, S90. 28 f/1.8, 50 f/1.4. trying to learn as much as i can...

I *love* the the 20 f/1.8. I rented it from lensrentals.com before I got it, and I'd recommend you do the same. But there's minimal distortion (which is fixable in ACR5/Lightroom3), it's super fast, and a great length on the crop sensor.

Canon T2i, 50mm f/1.8, Sigma 20mm f/1.8, 105mm f/2.8 Macro, 50-200mm f/4-5.6, 18-55 kit lens, 430 EX II.

Some questions I couldn't figure out from the manual

1) Auto ISO - how does the camera adjust settings if there isn't enough light? On some cameras you would set a max ISO and a minimum shutter speed, it will start at the lowest ISO, then, if necessary, lower shutter speed until it hits minimum, then if necessary increase ISO until it hits maximum. The 550D has a max ISO setting but no minimum shutter speed.

2) Can you get gridlines in the viewfinder? It seems you can turn on gridlines on the LCD, but I can't find gridlines in the viewfinder.

3) If autofocus is on, will the camera refuse to take a picture unless it gets focus lock?

4) If it's too dark to autofocus, will the camera pop-up the flash and use it as a focus assist light (unless AF-assist is turned off)? Is this as annoying as it sounds?

5) Can you set the * button to lock exposure, then use the shutter to focus and shoot? From p 195, it seems the closest is to use the * to lock focus, then use the shutter to expose and shoot.

Use Program AE and the camera sets shutter speed and aperture.

In full auto, yes.

Yes. Custom function 9-0, a default setting.

Thank you for the responses. A few follow-ups.

1) Auto ISO - I'm trying to figure out what algorithm it follows, especially in Av mode. Is there a limit to how low it will let the shutter speed go? Am I missing some setting for this?

3) If autofocus is on, will the camera refuse to take a picture unless it gets focus lock?

DC Fan: No.

Just to be clear - it will take an out of focus picture? I thought I'd read that if it couldn't focus, it wouldn't take the picture unless you switched to manual

DC Fan: In full auto, yes.

How about in Av mode?

Would you have to pop it up manually, then use the custom functions if you want AF-assist but not flash?

I believe the algorithm depends on focal length, from my observation it will try and hit the usual shutter speed of 1/focal length.

The camera really won't take a picture unless it gets focus lock, the focus indicator will be blinking - you have to switch to manual focus.

In live view, you will be able to take a picture. (From memory, I never use it).

The only people who could answer this question are Canon's engineers.
