I owned T1i and so tempting to upgrade to T2i after reading from this forum. If I sell my T1i kit right now, I could probably get $650 net on the sale. For $150 more I can order T2i body right now.
I still don't know if it will be better to upgrade right now or wait until T2i price drop.
I would think T1i price will drop even more after T2i launch date.
I'm not in hurry but must have the camera by October for my first baby pictures.
Here is my options :
1. Sell my T1i kit and purchase T2i body right now and pay additional $150 for the upgrade. I owned nifty-fifty and 55-250mm so I think would be enough. I know I'm missing wide angle lens and probably will need to purchase another one later.
2. Wait until September before upgrade to T2i. By that time, I would estimate the price will drop to $700 (body). My T1i kit probably will drop to $600. I could save up to $50 by choosing this option over the first one.
3. Sell my T1i right now and wait until September before purchase T2i body. I need to live without dslr camera for a moment, but should be fine if it will pay off.
4. No upgrade at all.

What do you guys think?

The price of the T2i wont drop any soon until the 400D series goes away. I would recommend buying the T2i now while your T1i still has its worth. Once the T2i price drops, so does the T1i and you won't be able to sell the T1i for as much as you can sell it right now. So it really wouldn't matter.

So if you sell it now for $650 you can pay $150 more to get the body.
If you sell it later when price drops by $100.00 for both, then you wont be able to get $650 for your T1i, you would get around $500, so that would require you to pay $200.00 extra just to get the T2i body in itself.

Sell and upgrade now and enjoy it earlier!

-----REVIEW ON THE GRIP-----

First of all, the grip is Part # BG-E8

Second i got it off ebay $156 w/$8.99 shipping (a VERY reasonable price for such a new item)

the grip comes in a very small box, you would never think there was a grip inside.

pretty much like any other grip, it has a generous amount of "Real" rubber grip just like the t2i, very non slip

the batteries load into cartridges, instead of just straight in like older models

so there is one cartdrige that takes two canon battery packs, but... theyre is another cartridge that takes 6 AA batteries, good for emerginces when you forget your charger.

other than that its pretty much like any other grip. also fits in VERY securely, not loose at all.

it finishes out the camera and gives us people with big hands that extra space to hold the camera horizontally with your whole hand.

-- Canon T2i, 18-55IS ~~ 17-85IS ~~ 50mm f/1.8 ~~ Sigma 70-300 ~~ Tamron 28-75 ~~ assorted filters --

I bought 1 today and shot my daughter skating. I could never get a great shot with my XS with a 70-200 f4 but tonight almost all were keepers and most were in the 2200-3200ISO. Definitely worth it for me!!

What do you guys think?

Just to reaffirm what the other guy said, don't wait for the price to drop. It was just released... and if they discontinue the T1i (which they might), you will lose even more money trying to sell it. I would put money on the fact that the T2i won't drop for a year, or until it's discontinued.

Here's the question I think you should be asking yourself... do you need 1080p @ 24fps, and do you need manual video controls? If you're serious about getting into video creativity and editing... it's worth it... if you're shooting home movies or vacations, your T1i is fine.

It has a couple other cool features, like better ISO performance, ISO cap setting, slightly extra detail in the LCD... but how much are these features worth to you? Are you going to use them, or are you just buying the T2i for it's specs?

For me, the only reason to get the T2i was the Manual Video control, and shoot my indie film projects at 1080p/24fps. If my T1i had those features, I would have just kept my old camera. I took pictures with my Sigma 30mm and 50mm on an XS, XSi, T1i, and T2i. The differences are negligible... except in extreme conditions. New glass will make a much bigger difference in your pictures. You probably already aware of most of the things I'm saying. But I'm just trying to make sure you're buying the T2i for the right reasons.

Hi Mike. Thanks to try to go with detail. Speaking of needs, for me T1i almost covered all the ground. Feature missing on T1i is external mics. Manual video control certainly a plus but I still can do the "lens twist" on T1i to get the same effect (if you know that trick). 1080p is not my concern right now since my LCD TV max resolution only up to 720p and I'm not planning to upgrade anytime in the near future.
I think the reason of my upgrade is not about the needs, but more about opportunity cost as the quality of the still shot image on t2i has not see a major improvement over T1i; How much I should spend for upgrade if I'm buying right now vs later.
I guess it all come down to this. If I want to upgrade to T2i the best time is right now.

The Canon USM lenses are much quieter, but from what I hear manual focus is preferred. I'm waiting for the UPS man to drop off my T2i......

Waiting sucks.

The kit lens, nifty fifty, and nifty two-fifty all have micro motor AF, which is noisier and slower than USM lenses. The best way to get around this is to record to an external recorder like the Zoom H2/H4/H4n and synch it to the camera audio in PP. There's software that can do it automatically (Plural Eyes) but it's limited to Vegas and Final Cut Pro editing software.

Welcome to the club! Time seems to drag on forever waiting for the big brown truck.

For those deciding on whether to upgrade their T1i to a T2i, I think the demand for the T2i will be much higher than the T1i, because there are MANY videographers, filmmakers, and photographers wanting to add a T2i as a second camera to their 7Ds, 5D2s, and 1D4s. The T1i certainly didn't generate the buzz in the pro forums that the T2i has. If you're on the fence, better decide soon.

I agree I had a very hard time finding mine.. called about 6 camera stores and only 1 had it in stock this week. Even paid slightly more than I was hoping to but I didn't want to wait another 2-4 weeks to get it.

Sell your T1i now if you want to upgrade. I just sold my XTi so this should be a big upgrade! I also have a 40D almost sold both the XTi and the 40D and bought a 7D but I really like having 2 bodies.

Hey engrmariano, could you please post up larger pics? Smaller pictures hide noise well.

Koui/firebird,
From the still shoot image quality stand point (such as noise, contrast, color), do you know if T2i better than T1i?
