Depends what you want. It won't have two wheels or a top LCD, PC socket, etc. but the image resolution and high ISO capabilities, video, rear LCD, etc. will be much more modern on the T2i.

Yeah, I actually loved how my old 40d gives information on the back of the rear lcd, which my 30d doesn't, that's why I started to use the top lcd more and more often, is this offered in 550d? :)

I don't think any Digital Rebels have ever had a top LCD. The 550D does not have one, just the rear LCD. I don't usually use the rear display even on my 500D (T1i), I normally have display and review off, which saves a lot of battery power. When I need to change something on the 500D I'll turn the display on momentarily but on the 40D and 1D I use the top LCD except for menus and occasional chimping. I wasn't a fan of the top LCD at first but now I really like it.

Is anyone having problems using a Transcend 16GB class 6 card for 720p60 video? I keep getting the indicator that I'm filling up the buffer, then it stops recording.

I was going to buy a Transcend 16 GB card.. maybe not now. I've been using a 4 GB Kingston Class 6 for now.. and haven't had any problems with all video types.

I have it for my T1i and have no problems recording at all at both 1080p and 720p.

I have decided it is time to upgrade to a new camera body and had looked into the T2i but dismissed it because of the price. It seemed a little too rich for my blood right now in this economy.

Today I drove to my local BestBuy with the intention of buying a 450D with the cash I have on hand. They price match and I was told they could do it for the same price as Walmart which is $558.65 online. Well I talked to the salesman and they were out of stock so I decided to try the Target store to see if they had them. They did not have it at the store I visited but I had him check other stores and he found one nearby. When I inquired of the price it was much more then I had expected, $649.99 in store.

I decided to just come home and shop the internet and see if I could find a XSi online. On the way home I stopped by the ATM to deposit the cash I had on had into my account. I had six $100 bills, all but one were accepted by the ATM. So I could only deposit $500 into my account.

When I got to the house I started to lower my expectations of an upgrade. I started to shop online and saw that the Target near my home had the 1000D in stock and on the website it was $499.99 so I settled and drove on over to buy it. When I got to the store I walked back to electronics and my jaw dropped when I saw the in store price marked $569.99 plus tax, $607 plus some change after tax. I was now pretty pissed, so I drove straight home.

After sitting here scratching my head trying to figure out why the Gods have it that I will not be buying a new camera today I decided to crunch some numbers again.

I am happy to say that I am going to wait two weeks until my next paycheck and I am going to spend the extra money and buy the 550D. I have never been on the forefront of Canon's lineup of pro-sumer cameras, always lagging behind with older models to save money. I think it is time I treat myself and go to the front of the line and enjoy the best of the Rebel lineup.

I look forward to getting my hands on one in two weeks!

Yes CGNelson, luckily you didn't just buy either of those older Rebels. Don't get me wrong, the XS and XSi aren't bad, it's just that for a little more you can get the latest model.

I got it new and already installed the Digital Photo Professional which enables me to edit , view, and convert RAW images, but I actually would like to be able to also see them while browsing through the folder, like JPEG large Icons, but I cant. To do that I should get a driver through Canon's website, but it seems that they don't have it yet. Am I right?

I can't see thumbnails of CR2 files from my T2i in Windows Explorer either after upgrading to the latest DPP. I'm able to see them just fine for shots taken with my T1i and XSi. Hopefully, this will be resolved in the next version of DPP or whatever software change is required to allow them.

Low level format the card in the camera.

Don't delete single shots because it can fragment the card and slow it down.

No bragging list - I just rent whatever the job requires.

Forgot to include that the lens was a Macro (non-IS), haven't had a chance to explore settings for video yet so this was straight off the camera on auto.

Hi All. New to these forums. Researching and reading this thread convinced me to purchase the T2i as my next camera. Only thing is all the merchants seems to be out of stock or waiting for their first shipment now. I'm hesitant to purchase via pre-order or backorder options as I do not want the hassle of tieing up my monies waiting and one might come available earlier elsewhere. *sigh*

Anyone here have any insider info on a pending big shipment of the T2i to one of the larger merchants? Hahah.. I have to ask.

Here is a site that might help..

http://www.nowinstock.net/digitalcameras/canon/rebel/ (external link)

I called around different stores and ebay resellers and found one that 3 bodies in stock last week 3/10/10 bought one with a $50 markup (but still under MSRP with bing cashback/coupons). I didn't want to wait another month to get one... seems like they are being released in very small batches and are selling out very quickly. I would say call around different stores and ask if they know when the next shipment is coming that's what I did.

Thanks Firebird, good link and great suggestions.
