depends on what your doing. I shot ~4000 shots without needing to change batteries, just memory cards. and it also comes with a AA caddy to, so in a pinch you can use AAs to run the camera.

if your not going to use it that hard, or you want to be able to comfortable use the camera in a 'portrait' orientation. the grip has all the controls (except ISO) in the same spot as when you hold the camera in 'landscape' orientation, then your probably fine without it.

I kind like it being a bit 'beefer' to hang onto as well.

I love my grip, it gives you some added weight and if you have bigger hands it just makes the camera feel so much better in your hands. easier to shoot in portrait position ...

What Im saying is I have never tried a aftermarket grip. But a hundred bucks is a big difference makes you wonder how much better the canon is or how cheap this one is made or....

Enjoying my grip. I went on 3 days without having to recharge my batteries and that's with at least 200-300 pics a day. Like everyone else, the added weight and extra surface area for handling makes the t2i "sturdier".

Got a grip myself. Love it. (The camera is too small for me without it). Great idea with the AA battery magazine too. (Great for 'emergencies' as a quick fix, or a backup).

Bought the genuine grip, but would be interested to try an aftermarket one to see if the extra cash for Canon is really worth it.

That's my question... Generic vs. Genuine.

Hi Everyone here.
I have the 500D and is very tempted with the 550D but i guess this will be same when 600D will be out and 650D and 700D and so on.. So my question is, doing mainly Landscape photography, where my 500D is just fine till now, ISO range from 100-400, do i need to upgrade for the 550D?
I read the 550D has better ISO but i stay in the iso 100-400 all the time and perhaps the 63-zone metering can help?
I'm sure the 550D will render larger photos but is this worth upgrade?

Thanks for any thoughts and comments.

I've not used either, but from what I read the T2i is certainly a worthwhile upgrade. A quantum leap from what came before.

I'd say it wasn't worth it. Your photos won't look much different. Invest the money in lenses, tripods and filters instead if you do a lot of landscape photography.
