LR 2.2 lost photos

Yesterday, I worked on a half dozen photos in LR, they, along with others were visible at the bottom of the screen.
Today, I opened LR and the half dozen I worked yesterday are gone, and don't seem to be anywhere else in my system (XP Pro)
LR catalog also shows nothing. How could it or I have deleted or lost them?
Any place they might be hidden?

i also experienced that a few days ago... i really don't know what happened.

all the metadata, effects etc in LR was gone, the pictures deleted.

then, i searched my recycle bin and there they were.... check your recycle bin.
