Just finish merging all separate libraries from past versions into the current version. I have a total of 200 gigs in images. I'm so glad they added this feature because it was such a pain to manage libraries in previous versions. Now that that switching between library is much easier without having to restart the program, I saved the entire library on external hard drive, and the current "working" library on the main computer. Doing this can save a ton of disk space. When current project on computer is finalize and complete, just merge it with the library on external hard drive and delete the current project on computer. Make sure that you create and name a new library within aperture. I had this problem with identical libraries not wanting to merge, even though they're not identical.

How intelligent is this? Does it avoid duplication in images when you merge?

I have two libraries that I was slowly merging by hand in AP2, so I know there is duplication. I was hoping to merge them using this feature, then have a local "working" library on my hard drive, merged to this "super" library on my external drive.

Assuming that two separate libraries are at the current version 3, you have a choice of "adding" to your current library or "merging". Choosing the merge option will merge any "offline" library to the current "online" library, and will also update any changes that was made from the "offline" library.

So for example, all your the edits that you have done on project "Vacation Pics" on your computer will be updated to the project "Vacation Pics" on the library sitting on your external hard drive when you switch over to your external library and do an import.

The add option will just copy everything from the "offline" library as duplicates.

Has anyone come up with a good use for the color coded files in Aperture 3?

Yes

Red = Cars
Blue = Sky
Green = Garden

etc...

Once I am done I hope it will be another quick way to filter

Might change to different colour for different cameras

It is just another way to mark files. Pictures used in a photo book, uploaded to a photo service, 8x10 crops, 5x7 crops, ones you want to come back and edit later, etc.

I've used this feature a few times in Lightroom, but overall I prefer other methods of organizing.

I can see it being useful when working with assistants, I saw in one of the video's that the had the color tags named things like "Read for Print" "Web" I can see this being good if you have multiple people accessing the library for different needs to quickly grab the correct files especially if you have print and web versions of images that at first glance might be hard to tell apart.

I'm a lightroom user, but I through I'de give this a try. Geez, I'm glad I'm using LR.

Why does multitouch not work with single images? In LR, I can pinch to zoom, but this you cannot. You can with multiple images, but not single images. Preview.app does, LightRoom does, but this does not???

Am I the only person who finds this funny, after all the trash Steve Jobs was talking on Adobe. About how Apple was going to do things better, since Adobe doesn't seem to care anymore. The program as an application has some great features... but when it's hogging 900+MB of resources after editing a couple photos, that's reallly bad.

Except that it's not doing that for most people. :rolleyes:

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Don't worry - I'm not having any problems. Just let it upgrade and find Faces, then it's all fine.

My trial version is talking 1.04 GB of RAM! This after loading 24 RAW files from a Canon 5D mk II. My configuration is nothing special, 10.6.2 on a 17 inch MBP unibody w/ 2.66 GHz C2D and 4 GB RAM.

While doing some basic adjustments (e.g. exposure) the fans on my computer kick into overdrive and my RAM usage jumped to 1.81 GB!

At least I did not buy this.

Yeah man your system has issues, mine only got up to around 330mb with 15,000 raw files and over an hour of playing around.

Yep. Taken while The Beast was resting. Not sure if the VM numbers are normal or not. I don't have experience with the program, so this may be expected.
