The bird pics are nice, but I'm struggling to find out how they deal w/ aperture 3 other than you used it? Is there some new feature you used or something you particularly want show that A3 is doing that others don't know?

Maybe I'm just looking a little to deep for info on aperture 3?

Thanks for the pics though, your birds are nice.

Places ^^ is great for matching GPS track data timestamps with the timestamp of the EXIF.

This being a photo forum you really need to have photos and not just all talk. ;)

This probably makes more sense in this thread:

Can someone explain what I need to adjust to prevent this dithering/posterizing effect I get from Aperture 3:
QUOTED IMAGE

That I don't when I use DPP:
QUOTED IMAGE

I've tried adjusting the 'moire' sliders, and googling around, but I'm not sure what is causing this, or if I simply need to adjust my post-processing, or whether the Aperture RAW converter is just plain worse...

7D raw files in Aperture 3.

note: the above images aren't necessarily at comparable parts of the same image, just a comparison of the effect I get.

I thought your post sounded familiar. From four weeks ago:

https://photography-on-the.net …p?p=9653658&postcount=312

I remember someone asking a similar question in another topic/forum. It turned out that their monitor profile or profile software was causing an interaction with Aperture 3. If I recall correctly, there was an upgraded version of that profiling software to fix the problem.

If I could remember the name of the monitor profiling software/hardware, I would do a google search for it matched with "Aperture 3". Perhaps you could give that a try.

Ahh.... I just remembered what it was. The fellow that was having the problem was seeing the weird dithering in black areas of his images. It turned out to be an incompatibility with his Huey monitor profile. The incompatibility with Huey profiles apparently goes back before version 3 of Aperture.

If you are using Huey, then that might be the problem area. If not, I don't know what else to suggest.

Yeah, I did follow that thread, and yes, I did post this, but had no resolution, so just thought I'd try again.

At the time I was using a Spyder2, and at that time I upgraded to a Spyder3, but I still get the same 'posterization' effect. I keep thinking it's just the way Aperture3 (or the Apple RAW converter) processes 7D RAW. I get weird posterization in blacks as well.

If it's monitor/profile, then if I switch to the default monitor/profile, it should go away right? That is, it's only a perception thing after rendering on my screen, as opposed to actually existing in the file?

It doesn't bug me at the moment, since I very rarely need to look at my images at 100%, I'm just eager to learn about what it is.

Just saw that article as well.

Looks like a pretty significant update.

And while insignificant, I am glad to see that it fixes the weirdness with the naming scheme when creating a new version - "Images are now stacked in the correct order when using the "Create new version when making adjustments" option."

As a new Mac owner and new to Aperture 3, can I ask some questions in this thread about A3 and how it works or how you set yours up etc...? Or should I start another thread?

I think at this point you ought to start a new thread. This one is pretty nebulous.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Yes, you can download the trial version, and then if you like it, purchase an activation key.

I think he meant purchase an "upgrade" license, as in the $99 version via download...?
