Yes, you can download the trial version, and then if you like it, purchase an activation key.

That's what I'll do, thanks.

I got a mac mini last night 2.53 4gb RAM, so far with 14k images A3 is running great, brushes work with no problems.

I like Aperture 3 enough to have purchased a full version after my trial let up.
The only thing I'm still having to get used to is the file management part of it, how it keeps everything in one "container" library file vs. Lightroom 3 where you can point to files that are anywhere on any drive like out on say a NAS drive etc...

How are you other A3 users liking and/or dealing with file management? A lot different than LR2 and LR3 etc, right?

I know this article helped me to better visualize my organization of photos inside A3:
http://www.bokehbrothers.com …perture-3-library-basics/ (external link)

What I've decided I'll do is to import my new shots into the iPhoto and A3 libraries but also copy them out to a "original/master" location on my NAS drive. So I basically have the file in three locations, one in my iPhoto library, one in my A3 library and the original right off the card on my NAS drive.

Since I'm new to Mac, I actually started playing with iPhoto last night, where I've imported ALL my photos from 2000-2010, lots of just junk in there, and started organizing them to help familiarize myself with the tool. I will then import only what I want into A3 from those. iPhoto is really for my wife to use and browse photos and print etc...where A3 is going to be for my photography stuff.

Anyway, I like A3 so far, once I get the organization stuff down, I'll move on to learning the photo adjustment part.

Look into "referenced" libraries for Aperture.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Yup.

Ok, that is great information to know about Aperture.
I need to test it out and see if I get any speed issues with referenced files on my NAS vs. managed files in my library on a local drive. I'm sure the local will be a lot faster?

That depends on your setup, but probably so in most cases.

Well, I have a MacPro with a GB Network card, plugged into a Linksys GB switch, where the NAS (ReadyNAS NV+) is also plugged into that same switch with its GB Network card, you think I could get some good speeds on a referenced file edit?

I don't know - you're in an area I don't know much about. You'll just have to give it a try and let us know how that goes (in case others want to replicate your setup).

Anyone know if flip videos work in aperture? My .mpg from my Sony P&S don't.

I'll give it a shot, set it up and report back.

this may have been covered somewhere in this thread but it is a long thread. Sorry if this is redundant but I downloaded the trial version and it was so slow I gave up on it. I was at the apple store yesterday and the "genius" aka "annoying nerd" said that my 2 gig ram imac is getting choked. Aperture uses about 1.5 gig, not leaving enough left over for the computer to do its thing (I may have that backwards). Anyway, I purchased 6 G of ram. Any input from you folks on whether this should fix the problem? I think the Apple dude was a little biased.

The first version had memory leaks and would use up a lot of ram with poor memory management.

Updates have been significantly better, but 6GB RAM should be a lot of help to keep things running smoothly.

RAM is just part of the answer, however. Other factors such as processor speed, Graphics card, and HD speed will also be important.

Thanks. This hobby keeps getting more and more expensive!

Is there a way to disable the EXIF data from showing up whenever you hover you mouse on the image?
