Really? Sure you're not just showing off your 800mm lens?

Thanks for the confirmation! FWIW, I have already reported this to the Aperture Team.

Mark

Mark,

Did try bumping up the saturation after adjusting the brightness level? On mine the color comes back.

I run mine on 16GB of RAM in my MacPro 2xQuad Core and it runs well. So it could solve some of your issues, that and the updates. I don't have a slow performance issue, so far, going to test out using referenced photos from a NAS drive, that might slow me down, we'll see.

Mark,

Norrie

Norrie,

Thanks! That was it! For whatever reason, not only is Aperture 3.0.2 print dialog defaulting to .15 for Brightness (where it defaulted to 1.00 before), it is also defaulting 0.00 for Saturation (where it defaulted to 1.00 before).

I feel like an idiot for missing it (the Saturation slider). I guess I was so wrapped up in having the image go B&W when I moved Brightness slider, my thoughts were stuck there.

Why on earth would Apple decide to have those sliders default to (basically) completely off positions? Seems ridiculous!

Thanks again!

Mark

Sorry dolina, I was really just giving you a hard time, not trying to be rude. I really like your moon shots, is that done with the 800mm lens alone or do you also use a telescope setup? My friend is trying to get into astrophotography thats what drew me to your post and my comment, sorry if it came across wrong. Do you have more pictures of astrophotography?

You did read that I later posted that I thought we were discussing MacPros and not the iMac that was mentioned, a slight on my part, and I said I wasn't tying to sound boastful. My MacPro is no where near as cool as an 800mm Canon lens though, thats for sure, I couldn't handle one of those bad boys. I would love to have or even just try one out. His shots are amazing.

Now lets get back to Aperture 3 talk! Sorry for distraction everyone.

Just made the jump from Lightroom 2 to Aperture 3.
Really liking the layout and the adjustments, but does it take a while now and then to process some images? Sometimes it just seems to get stuck, but then works fine minutes later?

Mine has been doing this as well, are yours full RAW shots from what camera?
I have found that the 5KMKII 25mb RAW files can be slow to load the histogram and apply adjustments to, sometimes, but figure thats pretty normal on photos of that size as the amount of data being worked. You have installed the latest update too right? 3.0.2?

oh man, I missed the 3.0.2 update. Is anyone noticing any noticable differences in speed? I can't download it until I get home :(

Anyone have a good resource for custom, free, presets for Aperture?

I just complied this list of links where you can get free presets:

I'm noticing a couple of quirks in the upgrade, anyone else? Any ideas?

1. Cropping hops from the chosen size to unrestrained

2. I use BorderFX, and am getting the ever-ending spinning "...exporting" and on "quit" am seeing the message "Updating information for sharing previews" and it's like stuck there 1/2 way on the progress bar.

Any ideas? Thank you!

YES! Thank you I saw this just recently, and got all the free ones I could grab, some great stuff, now only if I could do my own.

This 29-year old does not take offense so easily. :D

I shoot wild life so use the 800mm. Astro is a by product. I am hoping to get a proper telescope or astro robotic moon soon to do deep space photog.

The cheapest way to do astro is via telescope. I have other shots of the moon but it would be off topic already as they were done within Aperture 2.

Tip on astro take photos on clear, no-haze, windless nights. The less refraction the more detailed the shot.

Thanks for the tip, I'll pass it along. I think he's wanting to get one of those astro robotic things as well. He's shooting Nikon and wants to upgrade to a FF camera, maybe Canon, not sure. I think he really likes the deep space photography over just the moon.
