No name calling, just a comment on your behavior. You imply something when make a communication. You infer something when you interpret it. If there was an implication in your statement, it was necessarily your fault.

The statements you made are specific to your carrier, which happens to be an exclusive carrier that only caters to military personnel, making your advice relevant only to a few people on the board.

My statements, on the other hand, were spot on, not bad advice as you said. I told him that there was a trend away from these floaters, to check his carrier, and that I chose to get the protection plan. You went so far as to command me to "stop using an agent."

"command you"? i guess you are former military.

my statements were absolutely not specific to my carrier. my statements were based on how many people, both here and personally close to me, that I have helped get this insurance. State Farm is one of the better policies out there for this.

OK... I do have a pretty good idea now and appreciate everyone's comments. I will look into some personal insurance and weight it out.

That said, at the same time... lets see if we all can get along here. No fighting please.

Thank you...!

Maybe consider all policies are different. You are making broad sweeping statements that are simply false.

Let me see. You spoke to one agent and aren't making a broad, sweeping statement? I've got a Personal Articles Floater (AKA "Inland Marine" policy on my gear through Erie Insurance Group; costs about 1% of stated value per year. Never any trouble adding stuff, even the things I bought used, so didn't have a regular bill of sale. You may have had a single agent who didn't want to be bothered. There are plenty who will be glad to sell you insurance on your gear.

I looked at B&H; the 500 f/4 is going for $6049 (Grey market). A 3 year service plan costs $334. I'd pay about $180 for insurance over 3 years. And my insurance covers theft or loss, not just equipment failure or damage. Tell me that's not a profit center for the store, especially since the manufacturer or the store already covers normal failure (not due to accident) for the first year? Talk to your current insurance agent. Get a personal articles floater.

Can I ask who you are using? I literally had this conversation with my agent 1 hour ago.

I use Amica for all of my insurance needs. I have $12k itemized, and it runs me an additional $80 a year to my renter's policy.

I'm not much for insurance, but in this case it actually assists my photography and makes it better by capturing more opportunities. I used to be too terrified to take my "investments" anywhere to use it.

No - I clearly indicated that I spoke to one agent and he said there is a trend in the industry...

Now, that leaves us with my friend and agent is lying to me or not. I'm not holding myself out as an expert, just conveying what he said. Pardon me for thinking that this conversation, which is exactly on point with the OP's question, was on point. I thought it might help him to pass this on. This was immediately met with "This is bad advice."

Ok. Rant off. Agree to disagree whatever. Electronic stores are profit centers. Apparently insurance companies are not.
