every time canon announces a new camera we get:

  • people complaining they haven't added enough to it to distinguish it from the previous model
  • people complaining they added too much to it to distinguish it from the next model up
  • people who just bought the previous model wishing they'd waited and wanting a firmware update to get more of the new features
  • people starting threads wondering about the new body and the old one, and which is really "worth it" now that the old one is less expensive
  • people starting threads about the new body, and an older body that's the next level up (T2i -vs- 7D in this example)
  • people with the next body up complaining about the price of their body -vs- the newer less expensive option that does that "same thing"...
  • people wondering where that leaves the other models in the line as they can't seem to figure out "what could be added to this w/o making it a ??" (in this case what will the 60D the 7D isn't over the T2i)...
  • TONS of new members the day of the announcement starting similar threads to the ones that already exist
  • people comparing the new camera to a nikon (or other brand) proclaiming canon's won
  • people comparing the new camera to a nikon (or other brand) wondering why they don't make direct competitors
  • people wonder when the 3D will ever arrive
  • etc etc etc

just a few fun observations. I know I haven't been around here as long as a lot of guys, but I've noticed a few trends that happen with every new canon launch. It's entertaining to say the least.

I'm not complaining here though, just having some fun. :)
I can understand each position on the list, it's just funny to see it happen with each launch.

You forgot to say
- People asking "which lens for my new body?" without telling what they'll shoot :p

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

Should the there be a special forum for new cameras? All posts prior on a camera prior to its annoucement should go the rumors forum. All posts even mentioning the new camera between its annoucement and its introduction should go to the new forum. First post allowed in the regular forum should have a picture taken with the camera. Then it is free.... ;)

I run my own forum. I've made one section "rumors and news", another "what to buy", and a third cameras. Rumors and news gets all the BS associated with a new camera. Depending on the camera/member, sometimes we just edit the thread title on the rumor thread to be the real item and run with it. All new news posts get merged with the previously existing thread. The what to buy section is for people who come in with a budget and a criteria for what they shoot and ask specifically what THEY should buy, no generalizations about the past/future. The camera section is reserved for reviews from people who OWN it (the rumors and news thread catches links to other sites reviews as they're news...) and for sample photo threads.

It's sometimes confusing to our new members, but once people get it they seem to really like it.
