the proprietary buckle is very low profile, but it's a lot harder to use -vs- a normal buckle, at least at first:
QUOTED IMAGE

Funny, my bag just arrived today and it has a normal buckle. Do I want this new buckle system or stick with a conventional style?

The bag is the perfect size, that is for sure! Love it.

I gotta assume the funky buckle is newer. But maybe people complained about it? It looks like the buckle you have is lower profile. I'm over it... it's such a fantastic bag, I don't care what the buckle is. It fits everything I need VERY well. That is a 7D with RRS L Plate with E1 handgrip, 15-85 (almost always on the 7D), 70-300 f4-5.6 IS, 10-22, 28 f1.8, a bunch of cards and cords and remotes, and a speedlight in the outer pocket. Perfect size, this is the bag I have been waiting for. I'm not a Crumpler fan, they look too Walt Disney to me.

That's interesting. I have a UD60 that I bought in Feb 2008 and it has a regular buckle, but the UD's that I have purchased since then all have the style like Ben posted.

nice, glad you're happy with it.

That is a 7D with RRS L Plate with E1 handgrip.

you might want to add a picture of that (and I need to with my gripped D700 as well) so more people can see that these DO work with gripped bodies.

Ben--Truly appreciate your post here.
I was a ski instructor for 35 years and love to carry gear and ski. I'm carrying a d80+grip, 70-300VR and 18-200 VR; sometimes a 50/1.4.
I've tried a bunch of bags. Most have made me want to just carry my G11!
I would really like to sample the bags myself, but it's hard to find stock here in Canada.

My name is Dave.
I'm a bagaholic!

DAVE!!!!!

DO NOT BUY THIS BAG IF YOU WANT TO SKI WITH IT!!!!

It works, but not as well as a newer option I found. Google the mountainsmith descent. REI has it here in the states. I just got one with my dividend and annual 20% off coupon and it's just slightly smaller (but still fits the same load as I've shown here) and has DEDICATED straps. :D

it cost me $30 after my discounts, it's $80 new. It's ONLY a chest bag, but it's a better one.

I don't have a grip, I have an L plate from RRS and an E1 handgrip, but even if I did have a battery grip it would fit beauty.

Back...interesting. Will it fit a D80 and grip? My longest lens is a 70-300VR. The d80 may morph into a D300....or a D90.

I usually carry my gear in a shoulder bag; use a harness when I'm skiing.

Question: Can I fit a 24-70, 70-200 AND a 580EX II inside the main compartment? I'm considering this bag for day to day shooting.
