A bunch of experimenting with the 7D and the focusing. Even when I thought I was on, there is a horrible softness that makes me feel like I am shooting with the 100-300 f5.6 v. The 300 f2.8!

Canon Factory, Jamesway, NJ ... here I come.

Here are a few. I am starting to enjoy two more aspects of shooting ice hockey:

1) The Lightroom presets!

2)

3) Shooting into the strobes and getting that awesome ice effect. This one is enhanced with a "fake snow" preset (much like spray snow you add to a Christmas tree) - as is #2 above.

4) This is #23's 1st goal. He is the son of an ex-NHL player and good friend of mine. Of course I was messing around with the 7D & 300 trying to get certain SHARP close ups' when he went in on a break away. This is a one handed "pray the AF grabbed" shot.

5) Best shot with the 7D - which seemed to grab once I had the AF set properly. Still a bit soft.

6) Weird goal. No one knew where the puck was ... until ...

7) one last preset:

Vinny:

I'm not a big fan of the presets as I but I can see that some may find these very artistic. Plus they can effectively improve shots that may otherwise be marginal in terms of focus etc. I might give some a try myself to play a bit!

Most images are surprisingly soft given the raves I have seen about 7D. Maybe just need some time getting used to new focus methods?

Can you post some other non-modified images so we can better evaluate?

Agree that presets may be open to personal preference but seem a nice addition to the standard face/puck/net picture. Please keep us posted on your experience with the AF issue. Thanks
