Hello,
Please be completely honest. Believe me you won't hurt my feelings. I took the photo at Lanikai Beach at about 2pm since it gets dark early on that side of the island. They were a happy family. Just the little girl didn't like the ocean and hated to smile.
Thanks for any help and critique.

Settings I used:
Camera: Canon T1i
Shutter: 1/200 sec
Exposure: Manual
F-stop: f/13
ISO:200
Focal: 35mm
Flash: yes

Nice family shot; the exposure is pretty good and their expressions are good except for the little girl you already noted. The framing is a little too tight, and this looks like it was shot with direct flash. I think it would have worked a little better if you had a little wider framing so they wouldn't be cut off on the left and right and, if you couldn't bounce or diffuse the flash, had used negative flash exposure compensation to drop its effect some. Here's some good info. on using fill flash: http://www.planetneil.com …hniques/6-flash-outdoors/ (external link).

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.
