Just got my new Sigma 50-500 EX DG this morning.
Will hopefully get a change to take a walk with it thru
the woods this weekend. I was in a rush this morning
and forgot to grap my camera and bring it to work
with me.

Just want to say I got great service and a good price from
http://www.deltainternational.com (external link) who had it on sale for $870.00US
and FedEX delivery was very snappy.

I ordered it Monday morning, and it showed up this morning,
46 hours after I ordered it :-)

I will post some pictures, after I go see if I can find
some more Buffalo to look at, this weekend. Now maybe
I can get some better pictures without worrying about
getting my head stomped on ;)

Considering it's focal range it is quite reasonable, it weighs in at about 1.8Kgs.

In decent sunlight it is possible to hand hold this lens, but yes, a monopod is highly reccomended for use over extended periods or in low light conditions.

You got a lucky and a good price going with that place. They don't have many reviews on www.resellerratings.com (external link) I just got mine at list price - $1000 because I didn't want to have any trouble with such a big purchase.

Delta International is reputable and that's been known for a long time. There's no luck involved.

Congratulations, I'm sure you will love it. I don't know if it's that bad handheld, I'm doing ok with it even though it's pretty dark here lately. That said I am shooting at 800 most the time and even 1600 a little. This lens really eats up the light. The weight of it isn't too bad as you get used to it and people say it's notbad for a 500mm lens.

My arms are killing me though after walking with it handheld for 5 hours :D.
I think the monopod or tripod ideas are better if your not shooting fast moving things. Hope you enjoy it as much as I am and hope to see some photos soon.

Cheers Wayne :D

I absolutely love the photo with the pelicans in the foreground in formation with the planes in formation behind them!....
some nice images all round.

Looks like you could do with a sensor clean though :)
