A little background
I purchased the Dakine Mission Photo Backpack a few months ago and it did not work with my 1D Series camera. By design the bag opens from the rear and the depth of the photo-block meant that the top of the camera (hot shoe) would bulge out and ultimately poke me right between the shoulder blades.
I sold that bag but still wanted something from Dakine⦠I love the style and quality of their bags. I naturally looked at their next biggest bag but this time I would do a little more research. I searched the interweb, made several posts and placed a few phone calls but no one could tell me (without ordering) if my 1DMKIII or Gripped 40D would have the same problem. Dakine uses the same Photo Block in the Sequence as they do in the Missionā¦
Well I could not get what I needed so I bit the bullet and got the Sequence and here is my review.
My first impression of the bag was that it looked very comfortable. The padding on the back and shoulder straps
as well as the waist belt and strap bridge made it a pleasure to wear! It does not look like a photo bag.
The left & right side pockets are rather narrow so I dont see much more then wallet sized items working. The
pockets are large but they do not expand very much. The small pockets on the waist belt are cool... I'd put things
like memory cards, filters, lens cloths and what not in them. Oh yeah, the zippers are weather sealed.
Just behind the right-side side pocket is a slot that passes through the body and the pocket itself. It has
an adjustable strap at the bottom which must work like a limiter or floor for something like a mono-pod or ski poles.
The waist belt is padded well and properly sized for my build (5'7" 180lbs.) and can be adjusted for taller/ larger
individuals by pulling or releasing the tension on the shoulder straps... moving the bag up or down on your back. The
bag is not bulky or boxy and feels sporty.
The first pocket on the back is a very thin fleece lined pocket that can hold something along the lines or a wallet, phone,
memory card case, or even a lens hood like the ones found on a 17-40 or 16-35.
Behind the last pocket you will find a larger pocket that runs the length and width of the bag. In that compartment you will
find three additional zippered pockets that will help you organize things like sensor swabs, lens cloths, filters, memory
cards, cleaning solutions, rocket blower and still have room for a light jacket/ wind breaker.
The last pocket is at the very top of the bag and can be useful for storing slightly bulkier items like a flash or a light meter with room to spare.
Just behind that pocket is an adjustable strap that can be lengthened to hold an item as large as a skate board or as
small as a monopod. There is a matching pocket and strap just like this one at the base of the bag and a third and much
larger strap in the center. The center strap could possibly hold something as large as a snowboard just between the bindings.
