Can someone with the 600 f/4 IS tell me if your manual focus rings makes any amount of noise at all when you twist it. Mine is making a slight grinding sound as I turn it. problem is, its been so long since I've used that I am not sure if its always been like that or not.

The autofocus is dead quiet, but the manual ring almost sounds like its dry.

I've seen this issue in my 500 f4 IS after shooting in a particularly dusty environment. Noting that turning resistance is still normal, I just turned the focus ring clockwise and counterclockwise a few times and the sound disappeared. It must be caused by some dust intruding into the contact surfaces. If the turning resistance is stiffer than normal, I won't recommend my approach.... in this case, you might have to send it to service for cleaning.

The resistance is normal. The lens has only been outdoors a few times and never near sand or much dust. I have been shooting with the 85L and 16-35 for quite some time nearly exclusively, and I wonder if I am suddenly over critical of the feel of the 600 ring.
