Need some help: SD980 vs SD960

I'm planning to pick up a point and shoot for my girlfriend but have no clue about point and shoots. Hoping some of you here might know more then me. Reading the specs don't tell much about the performance and how well the camera functions. Which one should I get for her?

Any other recommendations around the same price? Is the cheaper SD780 not worth it?

Not sure whether SD980 is same model as IXUS 980 (sold in Europe) but mine is very responsive, good controls and IQ is good enough. If wiiide angle is important then you might want to check some other models too. But for me wide angle is wide enough

Im happy with this camera and does well p&s situations.
