Hi John - That picture was taken in Hastings.
And yes, we did have internal combustion engines in those days - in fact my motorbike engine was bigger than, or as big as the average family car engine and, you always had to carry a toolbox full of tools and small spares, and, spare sparking plugs. But, petrol was about two shillings/Gallon (none of yer metricised litres or new pence stuff) and there great was comradery among most riders who would not pass a broken down motor cyclist without offering assistance.
