When we lived in Kobe, Japan from 1958-1960, we would have US Navy ships visit on a regular basis, the Yorktown being one of them.

I was in the 4th/5th grade at the time and we always visited the ships when they arrived. I remember the Yorktown and I have pictures of our tour on board somewhere.

Yup. And the destroyer in the background is the USS Laffey, DD 724 (the “4” is obscured by the sailboat in the foreground.

That is the latest innovation, John. When the wind blows the oil fuelled engines cut off and the electric generators take over. Quite efficient they tell me. Mind you, some people would have you believe anything.
