Amazing lens. Supposed to be at least as sharp as the 70-200 f/2.8, some say its sharper with better colors and contrast. Plus the best part is that its black.

The drainpipe is an awesome lens, personally I would never sell mine, have used the non is 70-200 f2.8 and find the drain pipe was better, hence I still have it. And as packpe89 said sharp as a razor and quick to focus.

Was going to buy 70-200 f4is can't justify cost of 2.8is.How would the drain pipe lens perform at soccer matches?Mostly typical Scottish days some sun then rain loads of clouds and even some snow.

No Canon does not service the 80-200L. Mine's been going strong since I got in in 1990.

Built like a tank, no worries it is a heavy duty lense !

You can still find the weaker pieces on ebay : AF/MF switch.

Would love a 2.8is was going to settle for a f4is but saw the 80-200 2.8.Read a review that claimed the 80-200 was sharper and had better contrast than the 70-200's.If i won the lottery i'd save the headache and just buy them all.

Here's a picture I found that I took with the drainpipe. It was handheld and nearly wide open close to the minimum focus distance. I do not believe you can use a Canon teleconverter with this lens. I don't know about other brands.
